My wife took the car to fill the tank. She drove it (solely) the next couple of days to do local shopping. She then told me "oh, by the way your CEL is on. I thought "strange" I moved the car (hot day) out of the garage to do some work in the garage and then two hours later moved it 1.2 way back in and turned it off. When I tried to restart it it wouldn't start gave me the CEL light along with a MWL this time and would not start. Took the diagnostic to it and it gave me a p1423 "Fuel Tank Gross Leak" code. Checked the gas cap and it was loose. tightened it up and deleted the code. Car still would not start. waited 4 hours for it to cool in case of vapor lock or whatever but to no avail. Nearing dusk and could not close the garage due to car half outside. E transmission locked in park so could not push it in/out. Purchased wheel dollies and installed under front tires. Pushed it in. Next day after two attempts - nada. All gauges normal but engine will not start. I can even drive in EV mode just that car engine will not start. Strange. Don't want to tow it to dealer just to find out it is something extremely minor. Any suggestions/comments? thanks.
Extremely odd (and lucky) - tried to start it again without changing a thing and it engine turned right over. I am assuming sticky switch or simple cool off allowed any gas line bubble to dissipate? Anyway, i will be monitoring closely and revert with any changes. Thanks for the quick response john1701a. Appericiate the courtesy.
Interesting finding. This is the first time I have read about p1423 "Fuel Tank Gross Leak" code on PP. Anyway... what is MWL?
Thanks bisco. I have remembered it as the triangle of death, but somehow I had a hunch that's not what is called in the manual. Now I know the official name.
