OMG that's a new high (low?) for fastener price. Aren't head bolts around $10 apiece?

I have some of those fasteners either broken (still there but missing bits and loose), or gone. And some of the odd rectangular block outs not looking quite right.

But: it all manages to hold together, looks good standing beside the car; I'll take it lol.

 

Here's the other one;

The cheapest repair is to drive a self drilling screw an inch or 25mm to the side of the hole. Then just cover the hole with a piece of Gorilla duct tape.

Putting the can on the lift, with the lift arms on the plastic rocker covers, pull the clips off.

It's for 15 pieces.

 

I found out that the fastenings for the rear half of the rocker panel moldings are really inadequate. The bottom of the rocker panel moldings are retained by only two of the plastic push in clips space nearly 18 inches or 45cm apart. The rear end is not fastened to the metal of the body and flaps freely.

The black nylon plastic clips deteriorate over time from UV damage reflected from the pavement over time so that the thin retaining edge breaks off (shown in red box) and lets go of the molding. Then the entire molding is loose.

To fix this fault, I removed the clip plugs, put 3M VHB double sided mounting tape in the area between the two holes and replaced the plugs.

To retain the tail end, I drilled and tapped the panel into the metal and fastened it together with an M6x1.0x10mm flange bolt. A self drilling and tapping TEK screw can be used, if one does not have the correct tap.

Now, the rear of the rocker panel molding is securely fastened as Toyota should have done at the factory.

 

Chinese ones work too, maybe. They are harder plastic than the original ones, but for me they seem to work. They had to be pushed quite hard (I'd say: hitting with thumb as hard as possible) when installing, but they stick.
