Hi there. Wondering if anyone can help with this conundrum. gen 3 Prius; linked my 2016 iPhone se no problem via Bluetooth/audio. Just upgraded to the new IPhone se. I can again pair the phone no problem via the ‘telephone’ menu setup. However when I go into audio—>BT—>connect, it won’t connect. So, phone calls work fine, but audio won’t link up. I’ve tried unlinking and linking multiple times, connecting via my phone I.e. it will show as connected to car multimedia. Just can’t work out why general bluetooth works but doesn’t work with music in the audio. Does anyone have any ideas? thanks
11 year old car......and 0 year old phone......may not be compatible, especially an Apple. Apple likely will claim that Toyota is the problem. Toyota will likely claim that Apple is. I think you have a much better shot at getting help from Apple though. But don't get your hopes up too high. Note: even if you can't get music from the phone via BT, you might be able to do it with a USB cable.
yes I did wonder that....I had a bit of a play around today and was struggling to get my phone to link at all. Might have to go for the aux option as you say. Slightly annoying.
They new phone is using the newest bluetooth software. It's is likely not compatible with the older bluetooth system. Apple usually uses the new and latest tech, and doesn't care about older outdated tech.
One fella swear that Toyota sent a software update to his head unit remotely and he was able to finally connect his new iPhone tI the head unit. He literally ran out side and hit pair on his phone when the Bluetooth name popped up on his screen.
Well, maybe Toyota has an update for the software. But a hardware update would need a physical update. OR a new radio.
AND....in the past they didn't care if they followed the spec. exactly or not. There have been several instances where their "slightly better" features weren't compatible with ANY non-Apple product.
They followed the Apple spec. Which is better than "average" close enough specs.... Apple doesn't care if there products are compatible with non-Apple products.
Just bough an aux Bluetooth receiver which seemed the easiest way to solve the issue. What I don’t get is that on the cars default settings, the phone Bluetooth has one password, and on Bluetooth audio (same device Id) it has a different password? Needless to say I tried setting them up as both the same and it still doesn’t work. In terms of compatibility my phone connects up fine no problem. When I then try and connect my phone as a portable player (again in the settings it has my phone as the portable player), no joy.
Actually managed to figure this out. I needed to remove my existing two registered devices in the bt audio settings (an old phone, plus my 2016 iPhone se- this is what threw me, as they are both called the same thing for discoverable devices so I thought it was referring to my new phone) . Once I did this, I could register my new device and all sorted.
