HELP!! 2011 Prius got hit in the RH corner, destroyed the headlight completely. Severed a batch of wires. I'm pretty handy and done wire work before. Need help identifying colors and what wire goes where please. See my pics below. Wires to identify: 1. Thick Purple 2. Thin Purple 3. x2 Thin Brown ones 4. Thick Brown (long one) 5. Red 6. White + Black stripe (housed together with the red one) 7. White & Black (Intertwined/twisted together) - very long I'm hoping a few of these go to the airbag crash sensor that is mounted on the side of the frame. The wires were yanked out if it.
Try going to a wrecking yard to get that part of the harness. Otherwise, try to see if the dealer can order you the pigtails going to the marker, head and running lights.
The Electrical Wiring Diagram (more info) contains this information, along with the part numbers for connector housings and repair wires (pigtails) with pre-crimped terminals.
There probably aren't many people with a Gen 3 that have photos of that area just laying around or that want to disassemble their car to take them. On the other hand, I've purchased a repair manual for every car I've ever owned and they've always had wiring diagrams, with color codes. I've never owned a Gen 3, so I don't have a manual. Perhaps that would be your best option.
Thank you all for help. You guys were helpful. It's my friend's car so was trying to help him out. I just know first hand that here are Priius gurus that can identify stuff just with a blink of an eye hehehe So I figured I'd give it a shot and post the pics. Got most of them already identified (except the x2 thin brown cables and the red+white). Got my headlight and airbag pigtails wired in already.
The Electrical Wiring Diagram is definitely where you find all of that information, as Elektroingenieur posted. Toyota does sell repair terminals, already crimped to short lengths of wire, and the part numbers are in the EWD. But they are not as cheap as you'd expect a little terminal crimped on a short piece of wire to be, and the bill if you have to buy a dozen of them gets kind of annoying. At that point, trying to find a good-condition harness in a salvage vehicle to hack off the damaged part of the harness from can become attractive, as Georgina suggests.
The pull-a-part in my area shows they have a 2011 in stock. I may get out there Saturday. If so, want me to see what I can chop out of it?
Thank you so much for the offer. Wow, you're in Columbia, SC. We're practically neighbors (Charlotte, NC). I think I pretty much got most of the cables figured out and already ordered the airbag clip on ebay for cheap. Also the headlight pigtails got some aftermarket ones and they work great. I'll keep you posted if I'll need one more, but so far seems like everything is already connected.
Would you mind sharing what the red wire was for? I had some squirrels eat through my wiring, so I am currently repairing that same harness. That is the only wire I can't seem to figure out.
