Prius 2004 Sound. Is it normal?

    Hello, I just bought my 2004 Prius with 196miles for work. I hear this sound when I turn on the car.


    Any ideas this that normal or something wrong with the car?

    Four seconds is not much to go by. What is not working? Does the car drive? Do you mean 196,000 miles?

    The sound It goes for couple second when the car is parked or stopped. Yes the car drive normal and 196,000 miles. But the car pass the smog and everything work fine.

    See if the sound is coming from under the hood master cylinder area.

    Maybe bad brake actuator. Hows the brakes feel? Are they working at all? If its bad it will throw the red triangle of death on the dash the RTOD and when I mean death I mean death to your wallet.

    People sell there G2's when they usually need a very expensive part like the hybrid battery or the engine is shot and eats alot of engine oil or the brake actuator was declared bad. The brake is very expensive. Otherwise they drive them till the wheels fall off like me with mine. Sorry.

    The really horrible news is you live in California so your catalytic converter is going to get stolen in a few hours. If you park your car outside and leave it outside for any length of time its gone.
    It costs $1900 at the dealer its back ordered and cant be found.

    We see lots of G2 stolen cats out of Ca.

    Go on your youtube and search:

    prius stolen.

    Does the sound happen every time?
    I've had this happen a few times but not very consistent and no issues followed.

    I didn't have a problems with the Brakes. But the sound is kind of similar.

    The brakes are good I'm using the car for a week I didn't had any problem. Only the sound keep coming time to time. I will check it out tomorrow. I park my car on the street. Hope nobody sees it.

    The sound happens when I turn on the car and sometimes when I fully stone while the shifter is on Drive.

    try not to fully stone if you can.

    btw, the brakes can honk for a long time, while still being fully effective.
