We got these blue silicone wiper blades for our Prius C and they were awesome. We used them for two years straight without a single problem, because we had to sell our Prius C to get a Prius V for the arriving baby, we went back to the same shop to have these silicone blades retrofitted to our existing blades. Guys and girls here is a summary of what I love about them. 1. Silent silent silent, they run without any noise. 2. Coats the glass with water repellent properties as they are used. 3. They last for ever, after 2 years in the scorching tropical sun they leave no streaks and do not jump. 4. Works perfectly with Rain off. 5. They save money because you never have to change them and they look really cool... not because they are blue!
I tried some similar ones years ago and was NOT impressed. They tended to be streaky because of the deposited "coating" and because debris (dirt) tended to stick to the blades. Most likely they have improved some by now. How much did you pay for them ? And how does that compare with the price of OEM refills at a dealer ??
Cool, I recently found out that K&N has their own line of wipers now that are said to be aerodynamic. I think that will be my next set. Right now I am using Goodyear from Costco.
If those aerodynamic blade body can be fitted with these contact silicone strip we might be on to something! I'll try to see if I can find the factory which make these. Keep you posted! The guy took my existing blades off and came back after 15min with these blue silicone parts. Should be a easy DIY job with the right parts.
I'm guessing these were Tripledge. I wasn't impressed either. Parent company JAMAK pretty much shut down the operation. I also suspect that they were low purity Si, hence they didn't last long. PIAA, Michelin, and Rain-X I believe also make Si wiper blades. I heard from a Mercedes forum member the Michelin connector was fragile/broke. I haven't tried my set I keep a spare of each size I need... moto g(7) power ?
I think the 3 of them for two front and one rear were $45 US. They did not change the wiper housing, just the business end to silicone material. They also have 3 grade levels. I went with the same ones I got 2 years ago. Its been raining for the last week here in Taiwan, the monsoon season I guess. I will apply some Rain Off this weekend for crystal clear night rider! I am going to look into how much they are just buy the material, maybe we can send them abroad for testing, if they can take the heat and the acidic rain we have here in Taipei, I guess they might have a chance in harsh area such as Las Vegas or Dubai...
I was so tired today, started to pass out. So I got out of the car to walk around and get the blood pumping. Took these photos of the silicone blade on the windshield. Continue to drive more awake afterwards.
any regular old wipers work fine wax the windshield once a week (title was spray wax n shine) and clean the blades I've had wipers last years, just by keeping them clean and waxed
I just use and abuse these. Other than giving them a wipe down when I wash my car by myself every 6 months with a soft cloth. They just keep on going without windshield waxing.
