Greetings. I have a 2013 Prius V-5 with 66,800 miles on it. We've noticed some lower mileage so I set the Trip A to 0.0 and filled up the tank. The V got 233 miles to 8 Gallons (29.125 mpg) in normal city driving. This is one test but my thought is that the gas engine is kicking in more because the battery is not kicking in when it should due to weakness. The battery gauge never shows zero but sometimes drops to 1/4 awfully fast. I can get it to 100% by coasting and breaking on hills. Does the group have an opinion based on previous experience with this?
Check the antifreeze. Is it full and staying in the same place. Usually when the inverter goes the car can hardly move and lots of lights are on. Traction battery could be bad but will usually throw a Check Engine Light when the battery is that weak. I don't think the green bars can go down to nothing.... I've had the inverter repaired and the traction battery replaced and I didn't have these symptoms. but It got down down to 36 mpg when I replaced it. Check tire pressure.
what do you normally average? a weak battery would be unusual, but not unheard of. what you're seeing on the battery indicator seems normal. jack it up and make sure the wheels all spin freely
I forgot it can go down to two purple. I rarely see that unless I've been on electric creaping around.
