Hi guys. just a quick question regarding the cleaning of the High Voltage battery fan. I have had a look on YouTube at some tutorials but they all seem to want you to completely remove the back seat. Is there a way of doing this without the removal of the back seat. Many thanks Nick
Yes. If you pull up hard on the plastic side piece you can remove the top part by pulling forward. You can also shive the right side of the seat back with one hand and see the 10mm bolt you're supposed to remove. You can remove the bolt it without removing the seat, but be careful not to drop the bolt! That's what I did (removed the bolt without removing the seat, and dropped the bolt).
I cleaned the screen (behind the grate next to the rear seat) a few days ago using a very primitive method. I took a chopstick that I saved from take out and wrapped scotch tape to one end where the sticky part is facing away. I eased the chopstick through the grate and pressed it against the dirty screen. A dust bunny would stick to the stick as I pulled it back through the grate. I had to do this many times until the the screen was clean. A skinny ball point pen also works here. But I didn't touch the fan.
My fan and battery only had a very thin layer of dust that easily brushed off the battery. I used a damp q-tip on the fan blades that easily cleaned off. This extra filter material catched all the dog fur and probably 99% of the dirt. Easy to remove and wash off in the sink and dry.
Absolutely. This is my one gripe with the @NutzAboutBolts video too; wish they’d consider a disclaimer, or reshoot that bit. There’s ONE bolt needing removal, below/behind the rear seat, just below the intake grill. It’s 12 mm socket size, the hold-down bolt at the bottom of that grill. Push apart the seat and back portions of the seat right there, and reach through with ratchet wrench with an extension. Get a finger on it to avoid it dropping. Headband lamp helps. it’s definitely easier to reach than to reach AND photograph lol, but anyway, doable:
