Hey, my 2008 Prius had a totally dead 12V battery. From what I understand, I got the correct battery that matches the smart key. Dude at autozone also confirmed. Everything went together fine. There was a small spark when I reconnected the negative, but I think that's normal. This is all to say everything works as it should, except now when I turn it on there are three loud clicks from the "Key Oscillator", part number 89991-47030. Then there is another loud click when I turn it off. It definitely didn't do that before. It's located behind the rear seat on the drivers side.
Something is wrong with this story. The "smart key" has nothing to do with getting the right 12 V aux. battery. Did you fully charge the new battery ? Did the noisy part get moved during the battery swap ??
That's also where the system main relays are located, and they always make three clicks when bringing the car READY, and click again when turning it off. (Technically, turning it off is two clicks, but they're simultaneous, so you just hear one. Going READY is a sequence, first the precharge relay SMR1, simultaneous with SMR3, then SMR2 after the precharge, then SMR1 dropping out.) I think you have accused the key oscillator just because it was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Buy a non-hybrid? Was there any trim, or the usual deck board or under-deck storage box, that got removed for replacing the 12 volt battery, and not put back? I have found that can make a big difference in how loud the normal clicking seems.
Ironically, I’m trying to get ready to sell. It didn’t do it before the battery change, and it’s very noticeable.
While I know that this idea is so radical that some people are just not capable of understanding it.............. It is highly likely that it DID do that before, as explained earlier, and something that you DID has just make it more noticeable. GASP.
I can guarantee you it made three clicks every time you ever made it READY, and two-clicks-sounding-like-one every time you ever turned it off from READY.
While I appreciate your guys’ ham fisted attempt at helping me, I gotta say, you’re bad at your job and should probably try something else
I guess this is another case of "You can't handle the truth." I gotta say that you need to be a bit more open minded. Good luck. When you ask for advice and then ignore the answers, you will certainly NEED some luck.
Things like that have happened to me though ... I'll notice something once for the first time, and after that I'm always noticing it like I never did before, and it's like I can't not notice it anymore. In these forums it happens a lot with the brake pump. Yes, running too often can be a sign of an incipient problem, but it does normally run every few times you use the brake. New members will come here and read a few posts about worn out brake pumps, and then they will suddenly start hearing their own pump every time it runs and obsessing about it.
Happens all the time to almost everybody. Except, of course to the person who started this thread. It is absolutely, positively, totally IMPOSSIBLE that could be happening to HIM. Right.
Considering it is such a common human experience, maybe it isn't so important to totally dunk on the person.
I have the trim out of back you can hear fan and battery relay clicks like never before . My battery is corroded almost all banks not worth posting pics the nuts are salty colored and bus bars are black . Stealer has a new 09 battery 1666 new not refurbed the original lasted almost twenty might as well go with what worked . All these refurbs look like crap shoots at best. Dr Prius cannot deliver for months so I’m stuck with moronic companies or the Mfgr. I think Mfgr is way to go
