I ran low on gas yesterday. The trip indicator said I had 9 miles till empty. Filled it up and it only took 9.5 gallons of gas. How much is the fuel tank capacity?
Our 2017 Prius 2 has an 11.4 gallon tank while our 2021 Prius AWD has 10.2 so they do vary a little. And the computer estimate on just about everything (MPG, etc.) isn't always the most accurate thing so it's best to not rely on them too much...running the car out of gas can (and does) burn out the fuel pump which is located inside the gas tank...big bucks to get it replaced.
when the trip indicator gets to zero, and it beeps and flashes the last bar, you still have 2 1/2 gallons in reserve, or safety. should be in your manual.
Hmmm... When all else fails read the manual. My wife was freaking, I was a little concerned and tried to drive more frugally.
we were headed to jacksonville, fl on rt 10 late at night a few years ago in our hycam. gas light came on, and i kept debating getting off and looking for gas, but there weren't any roadside stations, and i didn't want to go searching in the middle of the night. i was a nervous wreck, and mrs b thought i was losing it. but we pulled in to the hotel close to a hundred miles later, i never felt so relieved.
