In 2015 I bought a 2010 Toyota Prius three for $11,500 after-tax with about 98,000 miles. In the next seven years I drove that car across the United States twice and even shipped it to Europe when I was working across the Atlantic. It was my buddy as I traveled many countries on the continent. Over seven years I put 105,000 miles on it. Unfortunately last week back in the United States I was making a left-hand turn and oncoming traffic ran the red light and totaled my baby. The insurance company only gave me $6000 which would otherwise be right if the price of used cars wasn’t so high right now. Anyways I took the compensation money and found the best car I could within that price range and landed on the car I purchased today. It’s a 2012 Toyota Prius three….wait for it… with 350,000 miles on it. I was impressed with how well it performed when the dealer let me drive it as well as the gas mileage it was able to perform at which in ideal conditions on the highway achieved an excess of 50. Anyways I just wanted to share my sob story with you all and perhaps appeal to any suggestions about maintenance I should get to work on with the new Prius that I just purchased. When I purchased my last car one of the first things I did at around 100,000 miles was change the transmission fluid. The service records I was able to find on the Toyota website basically say that the current car that I just purchased has only had the oil changed and miscellaneous other routine services. RIP my love… 98xxx-202xxx .
Pull off the intake manifold, and the stainless steel pipe between the manifold and egr valve, see where you, for EGR carbon build-up stand (more info in first link in signature). Also, keep a close eye on the dipstick for the first little while.
