Figured why not and got one of these to slap on the next oil change I do. Anyone else have input if you use one and how it works for you feel free to chime in.
The aluminum plug is made of a softer material with less tensile strength than the steel oil pan threads. Therefore, it will sacrifice itself before deforming and damaging the steel threads. The magnet is helpful in detecting and capturing damaging iron particles which basically only exist in the piston rings, cylinder liners and the oil pump.
How dare you not give us a link to buy one! Where did you get this? When I first got my '07 in 2012 I researched magnetic oil drain plugs for Prius to death and couldn't find one. Are Gen3 & Gen 2 plugs the same? Sure hope so!

Having worked in the aerospace industry for more than 30 years, in the case of the drain plug, I would prefer 6061 to 7075 alloy for the drain plug, since 7075 has the equivalent tensile strength of mild steel used in the oil pan's threads. I want the plug to give before the threads in the oil pan. In this case, weaker is better. 6061 exceeds the need. Yet it is weaker than steel and will be ductile deform from stretch instead of frangible fracture.
