I just bought my Prius and when I bought it it was working fine, of course the very next day I start running into issues.
I’ve already figured out how to reset the capacitor when the dash lights go out, but I can’t figure out why the monitor screen is no longer showing me the hybrid monitor screen. I can still get the radio and ac controls to show on the screen, but it used to default back to the hybrid monitor after a few seconds, now it just goes black.

any idea what is causing this?

Any issues with your speedometer screen, or is that working ok?

Try pressing the INFO button on the right side of the monitor (aka the MultiFunction Display), then "trip information" on the screen. You might have accidentally turned the hybrid info display off.

If the speedometer and such don't always work, then you might consider having that capacitor (on the Combination Meter - "speedo") replaced, as it can/ will get worse and cause problems turning the car on and off. Also, when I had that problem, none of the warning lights worked, so if there was a fault with any other system, I wouldn't know what was going on.

What about pressing the INFO button on the steering wheel? Do you not also get the battery 5 minutes histogram display?

I have a 2009 Prius Gen 2 that the display is wonky at best regularly I get in the car and have no speedometer gas gauge none of the orange lights that are always on are not on just to check engine light and everything is blank the check engine light is unrelated to the no display the display is not the capacitor because my display will always return if I sit there and play in the car with the button I can get it to come on if I don't do anything and just drive off with the car and wait eventually I'll come out to the car from a stop and all the display will come on my mileage will be correct I know how far I've gone excetera it will almost be exact my gas mileage will be correct everything is just display will not show but during this time the MFD never has a problem it swaps in between displays like it's supposed to or screens like it's supposed to and everything no matter what my speedometer and regular display is doing in this 2009 my display my MFD was delaminating the touchscreen plastic was peeling off the screen so I went and got another one plugged it right up meanwhile my display of speed etc has continued to be wonky and the guy in Texas claims it's not the capacitors in the display because once they go the display will stay blank according to them my display returns within hours then it'll be on all day it has something to do with the alarm system it seems like and it being able to remember when I get back in the car it almost like it's losing some kind of memory or there's two redundant power feeds that go to the display if one of them is missing the display will not light but the car runs and drives and gets the same gas mileage as always I put almost a thousand miles a week on this car 500 will be without the display almost guaranteed but I don't care

Capacitors do fail intermittently before failing permanently.

I do get that I've been doing this for almost 2 years now so I'm waiting for them to fail permanently I guess we'll say for the sake of discussion and that hasn't happened yet the guy in Texas basically told me he doesn't even want it until it doesn't work if it keeps coming back more than likely when he replaces my capacitors and sends me back the display and I reinstall it it's going to do the same thing again because he's saying something down the line from everything I am describing which no need to do here because everybody will get upset he is saying that it is a connection a voltage not being seen something like that more than he thinks it's the capacitor on my display but I do understand capacitors can get or create intermittent problems I would also think that spiking it was a little bit more juice my make it work faster or die quicker as the case may be but so far no the times at the display is off are very consistent and when I play with the button and the key fob in the slot and watching the little red car alarm flashing trying to make that to turn orange for a second and then push the button blah blah blah it comes back up and then when I have it back up for a day or two when I shut the car off I just put it in the accessories mode like the radios playing turn the MFD off and only a car owner would notice my clock is on and the car is ready to be stolen most normal people know it sits in the parking lot at various stops that I make during the day and I go out to it push it it readies up display is on I drive the 50 miles or whatever I need do the same thing at the next stop and then at night when I get home I completely shut her down and go on in and then in the morning I come out and it's blank

Do you need to be driving it or will it start working if just parked in ready mode?

no if I get in the car in the morning and I push the start button I can tell by how the car sounds and the clicking noises that I'm not going to have a speedometer or I am if I'm not in a hurry I can play with the button and the key fob and the SRS turn off button by my knee and within minutes I'll have a display if I don't have that time and I have to leave immediately I start the car normally pushing the start button I have no display my MFD works my mileage and my gas mileage is not functioning the numbers aren't changing but the text is there while I'm driving the car this way the display will never come on while the car is on the car has to be completely off and someone has to be trying to ready it properly if it doesn't come up I turn it off and start to ready it properly very quickly again and do this maybe 13 times in my display comes on it never comes on while the car is on or in operation ever doesn't flicker doesn't matter if I bang on the dash I've had this part out of the car and on my bench looking at it there's not a burn mark or trace of anything anywhere other units I've had out of looked much worse but they worked
