I just had to have a new hybrid battery put in my 2015 Prius. I didn't have time to search any other options, I needed the vehicle to run. I called someone with an ad on craigslist selling hybrid batteries. I had to call the same guy before, and he comes right away and replaces them. This time it was way more expensive, but it was for a newer Prius than before. Without sounding like an idiot, I just want to know why he takes the old battery too? Are they rebuildable? How do I know they were bad? I also have two more prius cars that were wrecked and been sitting for years, is there a chance that the hybrid batteries are useable? They were both under warranty when they were wrecked. Lost with trust issues!!!!

not following you, but let's start with this: why didn't you take it to a dealer for a new battery under warranty?

people who provide rebuilt batteries simply replace the bad modules in the battery you gave them, and if you're lucky, they balance it, then they sell it to another person like you. wash, rinse, repeat

In many respects it's kind of a big pain to have a bunch of batteries have to disassemble them test all the modules figure out which ones are worthwhile and try to reuse getting a new set of bus bars nuts and all that rounded up or tumbling your originals etc etc etc All that is being done at somebody's time whether it's yours or the people who rebuild the batteries for a business you figure out how you want to spend your money. Having to put a battery in your 2015 was possibly not a thing It may have been just the nuts and bus bars were frosted and starting to corrode and having an issue transferring the power from module to module etc they could have been something pretty simple you needed the car running so you made a car running call. That is that you didn't ask the person or get a diagnosis you got a solution and a change out and you paid what that cost.

Agree with “bisco”. They sell your old batteries.

Hopefully you got a warranty. The other Prius that you have the batteries may be OK depending on how long they have been sitting.

Did you clean you cooling fan for the hybrid battery?

How expensive? Don't think it was a new battery, more likely a battery from another person like yourself. If you have no idea what condition your old battery was in, you're only asking to get taken. Next time, take it to the dealer and get a proper diagnosis.
