I just replaced the driver-side light in my 2007 Prius, and cannot get the rubber cover back on. I have spent hours trying to get it back on, and am completely confused as to why it won't go back on. I attempted to match the bumps with the slots and tried twisting to get it to pop in, moved it in multiple directions, and I have yet to get it in place. Is there some sort of trick to get it back on?
You can remove the headlight assembly and then put it on. Just have to slide the bumper off, 10mm bolts, a few clips and a couple phillips screws.
Had the same problem first time I replaced headlight bulbs... But don't give up... The right amount of force at the right spots will eventually be figured out. I can change both bulbs in a Gen2 Prius in as fast as 8 minutes now that I've practiced so many times!
I saw videos on this, and really I don't want to take apart the car just to change a light. But I already changed the light, the only issue is getting the rubber part back on. (Driver side.) I have the location, and I seem to know the position, it just won't go in.
Maybe some soapy water? Or just wrap it in gaffer's tape or duct tape and deal with it next time there's a reason to remove the front bumper cover?
