Recently, Dixie governments have been racing to outlaw 'drag shows.' Yet earlier tonight, I saw a drag queen image show up on my Facebook page, list of "people you may know." Many years ago, a coworker, young man, a Macintosh technician, decided he wanted to become a girl. Hormones, clothing, and a wig, and he transitioned. One day he asked why we didn't go to lunch. I answered, "Huntsville is such a small town if someone told my wife I was having lunch with another woman, it would hurt her." Curiously, he took that as a compliment. I have no interest in drag shows but once for a Halloween square dance, my seven fellow dancers dressed as dwarfs and I was dress as Snow White. Great fun by all. Bob Wilson
Like racism, it is a social construct for political denigration of others. Nature cares nothing about what a person wears. Religion teaches that everyone descended from Adam and Eve, yet these people believes that one's skin color makes that individual superior to another.
And those kinds of things are being championed by a political party that has been infiltrated by FASCISTS, who preach HATE and violence. If they had their way, things would go back a hundred years when all kinds of oppressive laws were on the books. Speaking of books.......book "burning" is one of their most recent trips to the past.
Which is what some politicians would say while heading out to have improper relations with a teenager.
Well, if it's a politician whose birth certificate says M and an aide whose birth certificate says F, maybe it was just a heroic effort to counteract all the improper influences the impressionable innocent had probably been exposed to by sinister modern sources. A public servant's gotta serve the public.
Well it was an evening dance in an elementary school cafeteria and assembly hall.,,, So I said "Mirror Mirror ... where are you?" And produced a toilet seat to look through. Bob Wilson

I guess by "outlawing drag queen shows" you mean the same thing as "banning books.*" (*) Unless the Author's last name is Twain, Lee, Hemmingway, etc....etc... I'm completely onboard with fighting ALL bans, when they ARE bans. OTOH, school libraries shouldn't be handing out copies of Hustler Magazine either. Local School Boards should be the clutch plate, and in jurisdictions where the FBI isn't being weaponized by the DOJ to stifle parental input...the citizenry usually manages to separate the sheep from the goats, eventually. Same with Drag Queens. If a jurisdiction wants to allow "Drag Queen Story Hour" in their school library? That's OK by me provided that they conform to local decency standards (cell phones can fix THAT!) AFAIAC, if Ivy League schools can prohibit ROTCs, then other SCHOOL jurisdictions can moderate out of class activities on campus....including a sexually explicit, non-teacher adult-in-the-school ban. Don't like it? Put your child in a private school while they are still legal! I loathe the idea of school vouchers, btw for the same reason that I loathe self-entitled BEV and PHEV drivers who insist on similar exemptions. SOCIETY (should!!) benefit from good roads and good schools which means society should pay for these infrastructure items. SO.... Some governors, and ALL Presidents tend to over-reach in their executive authority. ALL of these need to have their admin powers moderated by various checks and balances from time to time, and in our 52 laboratories of democracy this sometimes happens......suboptimally. Litigate, Legislate, or find a better administrator. Local, State, or Fed. See you at the polls!
I did a report about Harriet's book in the 6th grade, and it's an utter travesty that her "Uncle Tom" character has been twisted into the servile, self-loathing stumbling character that many people presume him to be today. Stowe's book was widely banned by many states during Reconstruction, and I fear today it would be banned by the same sort of extremists for the very same reason. Some parents choose to read out parts of books that they find to be objectionable in school board meetings and in other like venues. Some chapters in Beecher Stowe's novel would generate a much more robust reaction. I need to re-read it to see if I remember correctly WHY Uncle Tom.....WASN'T. EDIT: I'll be danged! The DoD library had a copy. I'll have to wait until I get home to d/l my checked out copy and start reading it because it would probably be considered to be overtly racist material by H.R. were it to be found on company property......
