Hello fellow Prius owners. I am new to the forum. I hope this is where I should be introducing myself, I just created my account. Today I bought a 2023 Prime XSE in cutting edge. I paid over MSRP so please say nice things to make me feel better. After a week of research, I sort of just decided a few days ago this is the car I wanted and looked around my area. There happened to be one arriving at a dealer near me, so I just did it. Man do I hate negotiating with sales people. I did my best to talk down the dealer markup over MSRP, but they still got me for a bit. Oh well, it's in the past now. Really excited to receive the car shortly. Is there anything I need to know as a new owner of one? Anyway, I'm sure I'll be posting here quite a bit as forums are kinda a thing I do.
Congratulations! I would suggest scrolling through the different Gen 5 topics. There is enough there to keep you busy and might stir up a few questions for you to ask. The Prius and Prius Prime manuals are posted on the Toyota website. You can learn quite a bit while waiting for your new Prime to arrive.
Wow, I had to drive 700 miles from south Florida to get mine! [need to know] yes, start therapy to be able to sleep instead of admiring your new car - the feelings are overwhelming! Congratulations
Since you are in Florida, you can use FPL Evo Chargepoints for free. They aren’t particularly convenient unless you take a dog to a dog park with an FPL Evo charger nearby, or like me you like birdwatching because some of the city parks have FPL Evo charge points. I signed up with ChargePoint (skipped the add payment method) and then used the website to apply for the FPL “extension”. (You need to give your Florida license tag to get the FPL extension). It doesn’t save any serious money, but “it is a gas” to feel you are a part of the electric vehicle folk. There is also an FPL Evo App, but I like the ChargePoint app better even though I doubt I will ever want to pay for an away from home charge. Driving to a free charge doesn’t save any money in actuality, unless you have something to do nearby the charger for the hour(s) needed to charge, or you happen to live next to the charger. (The one at the dog park near me is rarely available because two folks that live in the condos there use the charger as their personal “home charger” parking.) Use the ChargePoint website or app to look for free chargers near you. Just something to do while you are waiting for your vehicle to arrive. The FPL Evo ChargePoints charge at a little less than 2.5kW per hour with about 95% efficiency so you end up getting about 10 miles charge per hour connected, but it feels intense nevertheless. (That is only 30 cents saved per hour…)
Yes I have this app. I used it when I rented a Polestar to charge in downtown Orlando for a few hours I was there. Thanks for the charge advice - I actually have a Duke Energy charger 5 minute walk down the street from my apartment that uses the "ChargeUp" app. This is the 240v charger I will be using to charge at "home". I'm very glad I didn't go with a pure EV, the two days I had that Polestar I was having so much anxiety from watching the charge go down while I was in the middle of nowhere/stuck in traffic on 100+ mile trips. Thanks! Yeah, I know I paid a premium for the car, but I only had to drive 100 miles for it and there was no waiting like some people who preordered last year.
