My daughter was driving her 2006 Prius on the highway when it showed Red triangle, VSC, and Regen Braking warning lights.

She has some sort of code reader, said it showed nothing, so she dropped it off at dealer.

Dealer said it was either Hybrid Battery or Hybrid Battery Control Module. I advised him that Battery was replaced in 2020 by him. He looked it up, and said battery was still under warranty for one more week. Then called me back to say that it was not the battery, it was the Battery Control Module. And that cost would be $1900.

    Couple questions:
    1. Is not the Battery Control Module installed with the battery, and should be under warranty?
    2. Is this something I could do myself with a used Battery Control Module? I see that they can be purchased for anywhere from $30 to $150. A new module appears to be about $800.

    THANKS!

i think it's a swap over from the old battery, iirc. diy should be easy if you don't mind pulling the battery apart

What criminal pricing! $1100 in a labor for one hour job? That's infuriating... First step is to pull the battery ECU and look inside it for corrosion. Just cleaning the corrosion can fix the problem... Unless the corrosion short-circuited ECU already then you spend $100 on a used one because putting brand new parts in a 17 year old car only rarely makes sense.

The battery ECU and the relays at whole front end of the battery is removed from your old battery All you're getting when you buy a battery is the modules the case the squeeze bars bus bar nuts wiring all of that up to the front end which is coming off of your existing battery which houses that battery ECU You should be able to get all those you want from any of the battery rebuilders like the hybrid doctor he would have hundreds of them would sell you one for $40 probably I have two or three here I just keep them around how about used one yet Good luck and get it away from the dealer
