I am purchasing a 2023 Prius XLE AWD which has no spare tire, however I have a 2012 Prius D16 spare. The 2023 has a 19" diameter. Will it fit and be safe to use on the short distance I would take on the unlikely chance it would be necessary?
It means it's a bias-ply tire and not a radial. Radial would be R16. Radials are better in general, but a bias-ply is fine for a temporary-use tire like a spare.
And correct that the bolt pattern is different. The 2012 spare won't even fit on the 2023 wheel hub, much less dealing with the 8.2%(2.2") height difference. Oops. Meant to edit my earlier post, not quote it.
Even if it did fit, I wouldn't feel very safe with an 11+ year old tire. They really do have a shelf life, even though it is commonly ignored. If you're going to go through the trouble of carrying a spare and tools, do it right and start with a new tire. Then replace it every 7-10 years depending on climate and the results of an annual visual inspection.
