My 10-year Toyota Prius V was recently serviced for a 95k maintenance check and oil change. During this maintenance check, the dealership performed a MultiPoint Inspection check and suggested these changes near soon. The total comes to approximately 2100$(appx 25-30% of car total value ). I plan to take the car to the Local Prius Mechanic. But can you please let me know if these services look valid for the Prius V 100K car? If local Prius V mechanic is cheaper, should I go with them instead of the dealership? Cleaning the throttle body periodically is the most worthwhile I'd say. Look into EGR and intake manifold cleaning too, to avoid a blown head gasket in another 50K or so. See first two links in my signature. Also worth considering: Transaxle fluid change Oil Catch Can
Engine coolant now or in the next 5k miles if it has not been changed before. Spark plugs at 120k miles. Brakes if the pads are documented to be low. All of which can be done easily by an independent shop. Don’t use a franchise/chain auto repair. Your quote and timing allows the service adviser to exceed her commission for the month. Yes they are on commission. The coolant may be a factor in the head gasket problems of gen3 by turning slightly acidic and eating away at the head gasket coating. So to me it is essential every 60k miles or sooner even though the guide says 100k. I have changed mine ten times in 300k miles. It is one of the easier diy without air issues on a v. The smart owner reads and follows the maintenance manual. You are buying less boats for the other guy.
After first changes (at 100k and 150k for engine and inverter respectively) Toyota says 50k for both, for subsequent.
Thanks, @rjparker and @Mendel Leisk, for your valuable suggestions. I will find my manual and go through maintenance checks.
I made a table (spreadsheet) summary of the US schedule, much easier to read. Funny thing, table format is likely how the schedule was developed.
If you plan on keeping this car ... better start saving some money for the big repairs..... most likely head gasket and brake accumulator master cylinder......... traction battery failure.... $6000..........or more
