Hello- I have a Gen.3 Prius and I just installed a new Optima Yellow Top AGM Battery (BCI Group Size 24R 450 CCA 46B24R). The Prius breather hose that fit the previous battery doesn't fit properly. It's too small, thus doesn't fit snugly and falls out. I was wondering if there's an aftermarket part that'll make the too-small hose that doesn't stay in the battery to stay in there. I understand the breather hose is "just for the lawyers," etc. but I'd really like that little thing to stay in the battery properly. (without duct tape) Any help?
I replaced a 12V in my 2011 with a Yellow Top. The fitting in question is, if I remember correctly, a 90 degree elbow with the end that inserts into the battery vent port keyed to insert and then turn to a locked position. What I don't remember is if that fitting was the OEM Toyota one or something that came along with the new battery. I am certain though that the elbow is inserted into the keyed battery port and then rotated probably clockwise a quarter turn or less to a locked position.
It’s interesting, because I don’t recall anyone ever mentioning it as a problem , and there have been a lot of yellow tops installed over the years. Maybe a call to them?
My yellow top vent works ok with the stock vent tube connection. It was purchased in September of 2015 though; could be something has changed in the interim.
The elbow is connected on the tube still & it fit the Bosch battery that was removed nice and snugly. It just doesn’t fit the same in the Optima. It’s a loose fit, like the elbow needs to be bigger.
