Hey all, So two weeks ago my 2011 Prius (228k miles, base) broke down on the side of the highway; screen flashed check hybrid system and car refuses to get out of park or neutral. Had it towed to Toyota dealership; they ran the $160 diagnostic check and told me that the hybrid battery and 12V battery both needed to be replaced. $2000 and a drive to Boston later, I replaced and reinstalled both batteries. Low and behold, I still get the same error and the car will not drive. I am very pissed about this - hoping to get some kind of reimbursement from Toyota for the shit diagnosis which resulted in thousands in batteries (and they wanted $4.1k to do the install themselves... HAHA). Any thoughts at what else the issue could be? Inverter? Please do not tell me to reset the car I have done that a thousand times already. Thank you.
People need to have the codes that the dealer got out of the system when they scanned it and told you what they wanted to do they should have given you a printout of the codes which then you can copy and paste or paste the link to so people can see the given codes there should be plenty then when they were discussing replacing both batteries they again could have with their software looked at the hybrid battery to see all the voltages of all the modules and whether they're in close to being balanced or what have you I don't know where the car is or what the condition is or what the battery look like under the cover a lot of corrosion frosted nuts on the bus bars this sort of thing this is what happens when you go to the dealer they just tell you in basic terms what you need to replace how much it's going to cost and well there you go I would be a little bit upset too especially dealing with the generation 3 like this knowing what I know now about this model yeah. So if you can get us the print out of all the codes and all the nonsense that they initially got out of the car when they told you what they wanted to do you might get some different insight.
You take it back, and make them put the original part back on and you don't pay. They told you they would resolve the problem, and it didn't. So you don't have to pay. They didn't check it correctly and didn't find the CAUSE of the code.
Did the dealership tell you the trouble codes that they found? Did you read the trouble codes and confirm that they are the same as what the dealership found? The first thing you need to do is read the trouble codes with a Prius capable scanner. See this thread: Gen2 OBD2 app review | PriusChat Where did you buy the hybrid battery from? Was it new or a refurbished battery?
