Have lights on dash and code P0A93 from my techstream. Looked in the inverter coolant reservoir and no movement. Hoping to replace the pump this weekend. Will I lose all my coolant? How much can I expect to lose in this process? If I can get away with only purchasing one bottle I’d be happy (current coolant isn’t very old). Let me know thanks! 2006 Prius with 121k miles
Option 1, use "hose pinch off" pliers to squeeze both hoses shut before you take them off the old pump. You only lose a cup or so of coolant that way, and usually don't have problems with air in the system. Option 2, drain the inverter coolant into a (clean)pan before removing the pump - be sure to open the correct drain plug on the transmission. Refill and air bleed the system afterwards. Option 3, watch some people on youtube who do neither and make a mess spilling coolant all over the place. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
If I'm remembering the capacity of the inverter/transaxle coolant loop right, one bottle is plenty even if you lose it all. It's the engine coolant loop that takes more. However, comma, I don't have the capacity spec in front of me at the moment. Maybe look it up rather than taking my word for it.
There is a really long thread discussing this procedure here: How to Replace the Inverter Coolant Pump | PriusChat
