I took delivery of my 2024 Prius Prime XSE last week AND I TOTALLY LOVE IT! But it took me an entire week however, to get the rear view mirror button synchronized with my garage door. After many hours working with the dealership customer support, and homelink, it finally turned out that the remote control I was using (purchased from Amazon) worked to open my garage door but failed to allow the homelink button to sync. It was only after I located a dealer for my garage door type and purchased a stock remote that the homelink would sync. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as the Amazon remote cost $7 and the manufacturer remote cost $60. So in this case, the old adage, "what's good ain't cheap and what's n cheap ain't good". Holds true.
There may have been a button on the garage opener itself for syncing homelink. It's what I ended up using for my parents' car.
Seems to me when our son helped set up homelink garage door opener (on our ‘10), it involved standing on a ladder, pushing some button on the opener unit, not the remote. But yeah, could depend on the make. A common theme to both our stories: it’s too damn complicated for the older generation, lol. oh, and we also synced with a garage door on a townhouse him and his wife have long since sold. When we’re driving by that place we toy with driving over and seeing if it still works, just for giggles.
