Hi all- I recently noticed a new sound under the hood in my 2009 2nd gen. The sound begins when the car is parked, still on, and the engine has turned off (not accessory mode- generally after I park). If I keep the car on and the engine turns back on, the sound stops. It’s a sort of clicking, whirring, rotating-like sound that comes from right around/under the fuse box. No warning lights. Sound continues even if A/C is turned off. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks for your time.
Like a washing machine? If yes, that is the coolant flow control valve malfunctioning. There are a myriad of threads here on PriusChat on how to fix that.
You've got a few pumps that can work and make noise You got an inverter pump the brake pump coolant control valve if the car is getting hot enough warmed up enough etc usually Prius that's a pretty rare thing actually but it does happen even here in North Carolina it seems like it takes a while to get to operating temperature unless you're really going somewhere for an hour. Seems to be a very cool running car when everything is working properly so if you've got an overheating or a real hot running this model Prius and we'll figure it out eventually Cool and control valve yucky contents In the system dirty etc bent fins on the radiator etc
There is a pump under the fuse box for pumping coolant in the hybrid system. If it breaks, the inverter overheats, which leads to the appearance of a red triangle and the car stopping. Check for coolant in the hybrid system.
