I lost my 1/2 key fob years ago. That's still a master. My only one stopped working. A replacement battery didn't fix it. I have to take the key out to get into the car. Mine is a 2013 with just a button to start it. Hold the fob on the button and then push it to start. I'm not ready to pay the dealer $180 to program a fob from Amazon $69 and then have to get a key made on top of all that. I was told that some locksmiths can do it IF you find that someone. I was wondering if the chip in the fob could be fixed? I can't keep throwing money around. tough time. I would appreciate any information , any that might be a better way than going to the dealership Thanks so much Sam Flowers
it's unusual for a fob to stop working without physical abuse. i would test the fob and 12 volt batteries
Thanks for the reply. How would I do that? I know the fob battery is good and i just replaced my 12v battery in the car. It's the fob,, the inner workings of the fob. I haven't abused it in any way that I know ....
I know THAT! My question is if there is a way to fix the inner workings of the key fob .... the electrical panel? someone mentioned a "chip" in the fob. I said I replaced both batteries. I'm sure you're busy or there is someway in which folks don't understand my questions. That was my question. I'm trying not to spend hundreds to get a new fob programmed to the car Thanks
Sam, there are ways to program keys but they are not a walk in the park. Dealers have been known to charge as much a 400 for a key, just to give you something to compare to. It's a hell of a lot easier to deal with keys when you've got one that works, hint for next time.
there is an rfid chip that can sometimes fall out and get lost when opening the case to change the battery. it's at 3:35 search
