    Hi everyone,

I am a 2012 pip owner (bought used 6 years ago), currently at about 120k miles.

The car itself drives very well, but I am noticing that the visibility from the front windscreen gets very poor (and fuzzy) when it is night and it rains (even with wipers at full speed + defoggers ON).

Any shining light in front of me (either tail lights of cars ahead of me, or traffic lights) show up as vertical shimmers across the windscreen.

Today evening, I was in a very similar situation - I was taking my son to his art class during night time with heavy rains and I had a very strong heightened awareness of risk due to poor visibility.

I am thinking if I replace the windscreen, it could perhaps fix the problem?

If I am on the right track
    - Would this actually fix the problem which I describe?
    - What type of cost can I expect with OEM parts + labor?
    - Should I get it done from any place which offers cheapest labor cost?

If I am not on the right track to fix this problem - what other ideas can I try?

What is your collective guidance on this topic?
Anyone else faced same issues with their old PiP's?

    Thank you!

This is a close approximation of what I see while driving (obviously my vision is more in focus that what I could get with the camera)

No, replacing the windscreen won't fix that issue and may even make it worse, if you get cheap glass with imperfections. Imperfections are focal points within the glass that's difficult and nearly impossible to recognize, in daylight.

Try cleaning the inside of your windscreen, then treat it with anti-fog. I've found that wearing those anti-glare night driving glasses also helps. Also turn-on your AC unit and set to cabin recirculate, you may have to crank-up the heat a bit to compensate, set fan to low defroster + center or foot vents. That should take care of your issues. The AC will become your own personal dehumidifier, that'll eliminate inside glass fogging; that's difficult to recognize while night driving.

    Hope this helps....

Thank you everyone, I was waiting for another rainy drive to respond back.
I am using defogger, but i noticed that I keep the settings to pull in air from outside, with temp set to 71F
I will try again with settings as mentioned by @BiomedO1

Yes, i have an OEM heads up display which came with the car.
    I also have anti-glare glasses.

I was able to capture a true representation of the problem. Then I asked my son to verify if it was just me or he was also seeing what I was seeing (See attached screenshot). Sadly he also confirmed it.

As a second test, we tried looking at same lights from driver side and passenger side windows and there was absolutely no glow (as seen in the windscreen)

Additionally, as soon as the rain stopped, the front windscreen visibility went back to normal.

This only happens when it's raining?
Because your original video had at least a half dozen spots that was stationary - mid-screen left of center. That would indicate an internal dirty windscreen, since the wiper blades went across them several times.
Those still images could be junk on your camera lens, Why is the M in the michaels sign looks like someone blanked it out with a sharpie? Whomever cleaned your glass used vertical motion to do it, streaks.

Swap out your glass, if it makes you happy, but I don't believe it's going to fix your issue.

Yes, it only happens when its actively raining. The moment when raindrops stop, windscreen visibility is back to normal.

My camera lens is clean, infact I had a new'ish phone that day. To make sure it was not something with my eyesight, i also asked my son and he described it similarly to what i was seeing.

The video in the original post was perhaps not the best way to show it to you all as i was driving and trying to capture at the same time. This picture - car was stationary, so i could take a moment to capture correctly.

I clean my car windscreen vertically, yes you are correct on that.

Have you tried Heat/Defog vent mode? It sureptitiously runs AC, without lighting the light on the AC button. Or you have AC on all the time anyway?

In rain, I turn on the defog mode for both front and rear windscreen. That automatically pulls in cabin air from outside and turns off the AC (its light is off). Then I just set temp to 70F as needed.

Is that what you were suggesting?

I meant setting this vent mode:
    IMG_6251.jpeg IMG_6252.jpeg
which btw is very awkward to do, with having to find to find that button (in a row of identical buttons), tap it multiple times while scrutinizing a scrolling LCD display, all the while trying to keep an eye on where you’re going. With earlier cars this could be adjusted by touch alone, with more easily findable/tactile controls.
