Hi chat! My 2008 Prius passenger headlight went out recently. I bought D4S HID lights to replace and I’ve used these bulbs once before and the light worked. However, after replacing the old bulb with the new one there is still no light coming out. I’ve checked the 15 and 10 fuses related to the headlights in the engine compartment and they’re all working. My question is, do I need to look into replacing the ballast? I could possibly replace the entire headlight assembly if that is needed, but I want to be sure that’s the next step before I go to the junkyard.
The first thing I'd do is use a volt meter (harbor freight for less than $10) to make sure the headlight is getting voltage when the headlight switch is on. I'm not sure how difficult that is to do on a Gen 2, hopefully someone that has done it can answer that for you.
Yeah you can check voltage going into the ballast that would be 12 volts and if nothing's coming out I eat no headlights It's either that ballast or the lamp itself I just use the a l l a h i d to LED conversions for my HID cars You can bypass the ballast with the 12 volt wire right to the LEDs and then you don't have to worry about your ballast not working You've bypassed it and you've got LEDs in place of the HIDs and everything is good for longer than you're ever going to own the car.
