The Tesla has been removed from the government subsidy program,
and there's talk of a 100% tariff here.

You have access to Chinese EVs we don't have in the USA. I envy you as our choices are so limited.

    Great.
Maybe Teslas will be more affordable in the US and we will get more charging options!

Maybe if the captain crashes the ship on the rocks, he can blame it on the previous captain.

    Or the one before that.....
    Or the one before that.....
We've been doing that all of my adult life.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

Actually, the folks who live in the frozen, desolate wastelands north of I-20 really should THANK our President!
Before he tweaked Castro's kid about being our 51st state, Pierre Poilievre’s poll numbers looked a little different - 'eh?

    Don't feel too badly.
We actually have people who live in AMERICA who thought that the President was serious, but as I pointed out in a previous thread we already HAVE a large and incredibly liberal US state with nearly 40 million people mostly crammed into a few cities, crazy high taxes, a nearly unaffordable housing market, and crushing regulatory overburden.

Why buy a ticket for the cover band when you can just go to California? ;)
Our President might not be all that bright but there's NO WAY we're going to adopt a frozen California with two more permanently liberal US Senators and 52 mostly liberal Congress critters.
Actually Canada consists of 10 'states' and so it would probably wind up being 16 ultra liberal Senators and 4 who are classic liberals with a proportional distribution of congress critters.

    BY THE WAY...
In case nobody has bothered to mention it - this whole Canada-Greenland thing isn't about Canada OR Greenland but rather it's about RUSSIA.
Trump is like a sofa cushion.
He sorta has a vague impression from the last person who sat in his lap - and some Russia hawk reminded him that the arctic is up for grabs and the ice up there is melting.

I do not personally buy all of that - but I've been in that neighborhood before, and I can read a map (or a chart, as it were...)

Since there's two Tesla plants in the USA, they won't be affected by any tariffs.

I've always hated purely-electric cars but the Tesla is looking more and more interesting!!

Oh you're right....Tesla imports cars made in China into North America. I never knew that. (But makes me wonder WHY anybody would buy a car made in China....I'm having serious doubts over buying a Tacoma made in Mexico....just can't do it!)

The only problems I have with Teslas are that they're a single-fuel vehicle with limited fueling options, they have a very limited dealership network and they've had hit hit and miss reliability problems.

    They're sorta like a motorcycle.
A LOT of fun to drive, but not that much fun to own except as a hobby vehicle.
I was (mostly) wrong about them10 years ago when I said that big T was going to experience fatal or nearly so long term reliability issues because of their immature supply infrastructure, but they seem to be over-achieving on that front.
Heck, you can even get their windscreens replaced without contacting the mother ship - and for nearly every car these days it's about the same $500-1000 repair.

If I were going to buy an ev - it would be a PHev.
    Blame the government.
In order to be lawfully manufactured or imported for sale in the U.S., a motor vehicle must comply with about 43 pounds of single spaced, double sided pages of densely packed regulations.

Most of the ChiComm cars don't meet our "standards" and more is the pity.
I already own a motorcycle and a golf cart, and if it takes letting some ChiComm cars into the US to knock some of the rust off of our auto manufacturing - then in the end it will be a good thing.

I'm a free-market kinda guy - but POTUS has other thoughts.
It's the incredibly unfair and horribly protectionist Asian markets that saved the US auto industry during the 80's.
They MADE us make cars better - despite US labour's earnest attempts.
The P47 is trying to unshackle us from the 43 pounds of regulations but he's also not very bright when it comes to free markets.

We'll get what we can for the next couple of years and then flip back over and repeat the cycle.

    Like I said.
    Lather.
    Rinse.
    Repeat.

I almost bought an M3 in 2023, but I didn’t really want a sedan, and then a discontinued bolt became available when someone cancelled because they couldn’t wait.

I Like the ride height and the ability to get parts and service in any town, any where.
    CFO hard-vetoed the subcompact size.

    I'm still waiting.....

Unfortunately, Chevy has made parts scarce, not all dealers have ev mechanics, and service times can be weeks to months, but for a throwaway price, it’s a great car

They get good ink, and really.......they should be maintenance free for the first few years.

Overall they are about as reliable as any car, from what I can glean from bolt chat to Prius chat.
And parts are slow for many manufacturers since Covid.
It took Toyota a month to replace a leaking windshield on our brand new hycam

Not until you can charge up as fast, easily and at as many places as gas for the same or better price...inclusive.

Many environmentalists have already shown their true arse.
