From June 1 to Sept 30 the Peak rate is from 8 a.m. to Midnight and is 35.23 cents/kWh. The off-peak rate is 2.49 cents/kWh. Obviously, I want to charge after midnight, but I do not charge on a regular basis. Can is just set the schedule to charge every day after midnight and just insert the charging cable on the days I need a charge?
Yes, that should work - what about weekends. I have mine set to start charging at 0005; ditto for weekends - though off-peak rates applies all weekend long. Make sure your car system time and date is set correctly or you'll have charging problems. Good Luck..... PS; don't forget to unplug it the following day. Leaving it plugged-in can prematurely draw down your 12V battery - potentially leaving you in a no-start situation.
With a Gen 4 Prime there are two ways to override the the schedule. You might want to check to see if either of these schedule override features are available with your Gen 5 Prime. The easy one when using the OEM EVSE, is plugging in the car twice, fairly quickly. The more difficult one is the Charge Now option that shows up on the MID screen when the Prime is shut off after being in Ready Mode. It's easy to miss the message shown on the MID screen (it's only available for 3 - 5 seconds) and unless it's used often it's easy to miss it completely, much less find the button on the steering wheel to activated it before the message switches off screen. When I've tried using the double plugin way to override the schedule at public chargers. the charger has always shut off as soon as it's unplugged, for me. That is when the Charge Now option on the MID works.
If you flip the "ACC customise" option somewhere in the multimedia screen, it will keep the multimedia screen on for a while when you shut down, and the charge schedule with "charge now" button is shown on that - considerably easier.
