I don't think I'm the only one who has tasted random road rage from other drivers, likely because I was driving a Prius. Close tailgating while leaning on a horn manages to convey the contempt some drivers have when they see a "Prius" badge. I don't have to drive in ECO mode, but if I do, it's my right. I don't owe it to other drivers to keep out of their way, even though I'd probably beat them in a race with my 221 HP if I wanted to.

You do owe it to the rules of driving for slower traffic to stay to the right. If you're not in the right-most lane and you're impeding the flow of traffic, you're in the wrong, regardless of what speed you're driving. Is it random, or is it deserved? We actually have laws in our state that left lane hogs impeding the flow of traffic will be ticketed.

You may be the type to feel guilt when criticized, but I can assure you that I was doing absolutely nothing wrong. I am talking about pure Prius-contempt, if there is such a term.

I try not to push it, but there are a few ways I drive for more fuel economy. I don't treat every green light as the Christmas tree at the NHRA Nationals. I tend to stick more to the speed limit rather than the 10 miles over the posted speed limit that seems to be the norm around here. I also brake easier and longer at red lights than I used to, because I know that's the way to put energy into the battery so I can get it out later.

This last one seems to put me in the way of other drivers bent on getting to the red light in time to stop. I've even invented a religious sect to explain their behavior. I call them red lightites. The red light is their god. They must get to the red light in time to stop and worship so they can receive their god's blessing. If they don't make it in time, it turns green and they don't receive the blessing of their god, which is what pisses them off.

Other than that, people look down their noses at Priuses. They have a preconceived notion and think that anything that gets 50 MPG must be a leaf blower on a go-cart. Those of us who drive one know it's not like that. It's just the general perception from the masses on what a Prius is, and we've just gotta be in their way.

I've also noticed a general loss of courtesy from other drivers on the road over the years. People didn't ride your nice person when you did the speed limit, now they do.

I think an unmarked Prius would make a damn good car for traffic stops. People can't go out of their way to speed past us.

Ain't nothing compared to what Tesla owners now represent on the road even though vehicle owner's intentions were quite the opposite when they bought it, as well as still are...

Just for "giggles" I went back and tried to count the # of threads here on "Prius Hate."

Lost count after running out of fingers and toes.... The number of actual posts must be in the many hundreds...

    Seemed to peak around 2011...

I may be what? Wth are you talking about?

I can assure you that I was doing absolutely nothing wrong.

ok.....in your mind, you weren't. In someone else's mind.....you were.....there's two sides to every story...

people don't have contempt for Prii, they have contempt for self-important Prius drivers that act like clowns and think like this---> I don't have to drive in ECO mode, but if I do, it's my right. I don't owe it to other drivers to keep out of their way

You're right. My crime was owning a Prius.

I get honked at for coming to a full stop at a red light (when turning right), and/or coming to a full stop at a stop sign. Both of these actions are widely ignore by the majority of drivers, but there for a reason: to give you a pause to check for through traffic, and pedestrians.

Then there's one instance I distinctly remember: driving a short/narrow/twisty street (traffic light intersection about 100 yards ahead), and staying slightly under the "limit" due to limited visibility, narrow lane and parked vehicles. Then looked in my rearview: there's a guy there, real close, apoplectic, shaking his head with rage. There's no reasoning with such, they SHOULDN'T be on the road. Sadly there's a lot thus.

Just saying, Full Self Driving doesn’t care. It also can not be taunted by a loud pony car like I used to be. It doesn’t care about others following too close or other ‘triggers.’ Kinda of an unemotional Johnny Cab.

You can just pretend you've got "full self driving" too. :)

Here is the legal U-turn I made, which apparently upset another driver, based on the message conveyed by use of their horn:

I've learned to be wary of my driving assist features. It can disengage suddenly and without warning; causing you to be flying headlong towards the rear of another vehicle.

Yes, I know it's the driver's responsibility to remain vigilant, and I do, but I don't mind saying that it can be a bit unnerving when it happens.

I have always been amused that the punishment for not paying enough attention is to kick you out of FSD that is claimed to be safer than a human driver.

Oh, it's saved me from my advancing senility many times.

I think you're overthinking this... People who hate just have a general feeling of hatred. They don't take time to consider who is more deserving or less deserving of hatred in their given category of who they hate.

And as for keeping out of the way of other drivers, that has more to do with whatever mood you happen to be in at the time, which varies greatly if you aren't mostly dead inside.
