Acting like a manual trans - engine connected directly to wheels

    Keep us posted on how long the $23 Amazon pump holds up. You can add the info to post #20 if it fails within the edit window. ;)

    It's a thing with gen 2 where a connection inside the underhood fusebox goes bad in that circuit, and people end up running a jumper wire. Search here for posts about that.

    Problem with trans p lock is in fuse panel. Not supplying voltage to blue wire in harness that goes to the trans ECU. Digging in to it now.

    On one of the Chinese sites I found pumps at an even lower price. About $12. They could be changed at least every day. ;)

    <shrug> I have read quite a few posts about problems with aftermarket pumps, but very few about genuine Toyota pumps. Spent around $150? for OE almost 5 years ago with no problems since.

    The only cause for coolant "disappearing" is that there was-is a leak. The inverter system doesn't get hot enough to "boil over" (the ecu would shut the car down with a P0A93 code first)

    Fair enough about the cheap pump. We will see how long it lasts. We have found no leaks in the inverter coolant system and will keep an eye on it.

    We actually did better than running a jumper wire. We removed the fuse panel, turned it upside down, removed the cover and replaced the corroded pin with another one from my donor car. We now have 12V arriving at the trans ECU. The resistance tests pass as good and the problem has...... not gone away.

    Well. I've been driving it anyway but now that the cold season is done, we're attacking the fact that the AC bleeds down in a day or two. We are replacing the entire heater/AC unit under the dash. WOW, that's a lot of work. But during the process we found this harness with one disconnected wire. Does anyone recognize it? And know where that loose wire goes to? The donor car doesn't have it.

    Maybe I should make this a different thread. Comments?

    Fascinating. Looks aftermarket. Could the two white connectors mate with each other (I mean, if it weren't taboo, and all)? That would suggest it could be the kind of adapter harness sometimes sold to plug in between an audio headunit and the connector that normally plugs into it.

    I think you might be right. Perhaps a bluetooth receiver. We're going to try putting things back together without it and see what happens.
