I'm ashamed to be an American that purchases products made in the Asian countries that make products from labor with lower wages.

And all I hear is my fellow humans talking about how tariffs are going to hurt the dirty bottom line of this world we are all a PART of, in this universe we know so little about.

I'll probably catch some hate mail for this; but here are a few alternative sources.

Bear in mind that China has 50+ separate ethnic minorities within their borders. I spent a month in Urumqi some time in 2008-2009 with a NGO. I was warned that it was the wild wild west out there before leaving. I said, giddy-up; it couldn't be as bad a some of the places I've been to in South America or Africa. It was actually much tamer, but you could feel the animosity between the Uyghur and Han Chinese. I actually liked it there. It wasn't as safe as the rest of China, but it had more of an international melting pot of people there. East meets West. The few Uyghur translators that we had on staff was always working overtime - god bless them.
From what I observed, the government promised updated infrastructure and incentives to move factories out there. The Uyghurs mostly kept to themselves and didn't speak or understand much Mandarin. Even the high elementary school and high school equivalent kids didn't seem to be able to speak or read Chinese text. I'm illiterate when it comes to Chinese, but I can recognize some symbols and understand some Mandarin.
What I got was that these rich Chinese was moving in, buying everything up, and driving up cost everywhere. They wouldn't hire any Uyghurs to do anything but janitorial services. Sounds familiar?
I don't believe the 'genocide' tag really fits, at least the CCP didn't even come close to what the Nazi did to the Jews - but I suppose that's why the media uses that tag. Yes, lots of Uyghurs was displaced and sent to 're-education camps' in Kashgar. I can't say anything about the forced abortions or sterilizations because I don't know. We do know that has happened in some European countries and here as late as the 1950s; but who are we to judge??? Both the USA and Canada had 're-education' programs for the native Americans here too.
Recent videos of the mosque in Urumqi is totally different from when I was there. When I was there, it was a drab, crowded, elbow to elbow Turkish bizarre full of snake oil salesmen and pick-pockets - good times... Now it looks like a tourist attraction. I'll have to go back there on my own dime to see all the changes.

    I'm not Pro-China - just a realist......

Excess revenues almost never makes it into the pockets of workers. A nice company would probably throw a party for their workers and families - that way it doesn't drive up cost in the future. If they don't make their numbers or something unforeseen takes place in the future no harm, no foul, no layoffs. That's the difference between a well organized and well run company vs one that flies by the seat of their pants..

    YMMV
