I have a 2006 prius. I took the throttle body off and took the TP sensor off. tested it, and now after I put it back on in the same spot the best I could, I am getting 10 mpg less than before. How do you adjust the TP sensor? Are there voltage or resistance settings it should have? Help and thank you Dean
We've never been able to find anyone outside of the factory who has figured out how to calibrate the TP sensor. Fortunately for you, Gen2 Prius are becoming abundant at wrecking yards and simply swapping the throttle body out with one from a wrecked Prius is the fastest/easiest fix.
Was the 12V battery disconnected? The throttle valve is trained while the vehicle is running, it accumulates information and makes the necessary adjustments. What is the current fuel trim data?
Thank you for your reply. I might have to get a used one Something else. Why is the TPS sensor slotted if the ECU will relearn everything? And the screws holding the TPS sensor are painted, so it was calibrated somehow....
The OP took apart the throttle body sensor that detects the position of the butterfly valve. The sensor provides feedback information to the ECM. The sensor is calibrated and sealed on the throttle body by the manufacturer. The sensor should never be taken apart. The only thing the OP can do is replace the throttle body. I am surprised that the OP did not report that a trouble code has been triggered by the throttle position sensor.
Yep... that's had many of us sitting their looking at that it wondering why no one but manufacturer has the ability to calibrate it. You'd think their would be something in Toyota Techstream that would do the calibration, but no one has ever found that function.
It may be a matter of also having factory-floor hardware to very precisely measure the throttle angle to correlate with the sensor reading.
Painted screws to secure the correct position and not touch it unnecessarily. It looks like you have a case of breaking, and you need to study the instructions. What was the need to climb inside the sensor if you do not know what fuel trim is and where to get it?
