Apparently my wiring harness has been chewed by rodents and said wiring harness is keeping my Prius from running. The mechanic at Toyota said a new harness would make things much easier as he is having trouble figuring out what is wrong with the existing wiring harness. And guess what? Toyota doesn't make them any more. I thought I could buy one from ToyotaPartsDeal but what a terrible company. I've been waiting for a week for them to contact me for payment and it turns out they canceled the order because they didn't have the part and never let me know. Now I am trying to find the part at Amayama in Japan and it happens to be a holiday week there.
On the Amayama site, they are telling me that harness part 82141-47e91 (told to me by my mechanic) does not match my VIN, but instead part number 82111-47191 , 82111-47201 , or 82111-47211 would work better. I have asked my mechanic for the engine number to see if that will help narrow down my choices.
Any insight on my dilemma would be helpful,

In Tucson Arizona this is going on seriously and some mechanic has traced it down to the underhood engine loom assembly no kidding that's an awful lot of wiring to just blame on the car not running I would think something attached to those wires maybe. Seems like an awfully big reach to me anyway course here I could just go to another car and well have at it and then I'm not sure that all of that's going to go like it seems like it ought to you're going to probably have to have the engine and transmission pretty much out of the assembly to get it all out haven't tried it personally but looks like it'd be quite something especially over there at the fuse box and whatnot like I said it seems like an awful large reach. With the amount of cars that are out and available now it seems like an awful stretch at best.

Will the car start up enough to let an OBD2 device talk to it? If so you could run Techstream or an equivalent and it should show which modules can communicate and which cannot. From that and the wiring diagram it may be enough to locate the damaged section. Rodent damage to wiring is often pretty obvious, at least if you know where to look, more or less, for that damage.

The first problem is talking to a Toyota Stealership in the first place... They're warranty specialists so they only replace the most expensive parts possible to make as much money as possible for the stealership. They probably never even bothered to splice the wires back together because Gen2 Prius has been out of warranty for more than a decade.

Basically, you have an electrical wiring problem that can be repaired via a normal competent non-stealership mechanic that's willing to pull portions of wiring harnesses from the abundant number of wrecked Prius at wrecking yards.

Of course as Tom is rambling about above, the diagnosis might NOT be correct. We need to see pictures of the damaged wires to be certain.

Lastly, if you let us know what region you live in, there might be someone on here who lives near you who would be willing to help you out.
