Hey all. I’m new. Please forgive if this wrong place to post. But I’m posting an I’m new here with some info and ???s.

I am looking for a Prius. 4th gen premium sound $350 a month. I don’t have money down right now. Is this possible? I need to be around $450 or less per month for car and insurance.

I have an issue with fitting. The console. Most cars suck. I need to be able to spread my legs a bit. 2nd gen and 4th gen I think I fit ok. 3rd gen is like I’m boxed in. No room.

but what I want is the legroom of second and 4th gen. But premium sound and nav etc. but I only can do maybe $350 a month for the car. I need full coverage insurance being it’ll be financed.

right now I have a 2019 Chevy bolt ev. Premier. Like it. Premium sound. Sub. Small but nice to have. Great screen. Etc etc. but I can’t charge at home. Apartment. So want to replace it with a Prius.

Second gen is ok. Except no Bluetooth. No premium sound or anything. Speed screen in 4th gen much better. 2nd gen old as heck. But whatever car I get I get warranty for it.

with second gen. I’m looking at over 100k mile. Base model. So can I upgrade the cd to a touchscreen kenwood or something for CarPlay and nav etc? I’ve heard yes.

not sure if a second gen would be ok being their old. I can get one now 171k miles for $6k but base model. So I’d need to immediately put in a touch screen for my iPhone. And then save for speaker. But I’d rather have prem sound already and stuff.

I just don’t think I can find anything for $350 a month. 4th gen prem sound. I don’t even know what trim prem sound starts at. For 4th gen. 2016-2022. I don’t care long as $350 or less a month.

I’d much rather have 4th gen. But maybe with the right specs and upgrades and cost a second gen could work? I test drove second gen and it’s not bad.

hey buggs, fancy meeting you here! you have posted in the right place for a newbie.

i can't help you on pricing or audio, but i would recommend going with gen 4. gen 2 are great cars, but really only for serious diy'ers at this point in their life cycle.

with gen 4, stick with 2018 or newer, as some of the early models had exhaust coolant heat exchanger leaks which lead to blown head gaskets in some cases, so they are a bit of a crapshoot.

all the best in your pursuit!

    Hi.
Well some may be good. And a warranty helps. I don’t think anything is possible for $350 though so then I couldn’t do anything. :(

Such a bummer no responses really.
So I test drove my cousins 2017. Base model? Two? C? I don’t know. No nav. No prem sound. This the base model?
It’s got a cracked windshield and front bumper. Like she don’t take care of it good. No idea. 101k miles.
I have questions. Sound was ok. Bass. But not as clean as my Chevy but decent sound.

    questions on 4 th gen.
How do you see current mpg like in the second gen? While driving not total.
If you change the screen for my own you lose the car info but anything else? Is it not good to swap it for kenwood or something else? I’d want one with CarPlay.
Can you disable the back up beep
Where are the sound settings? For front and rear balance and treble and bass and so forth.
How do you drive in ev only? I had a Ford cmax sel 2013 that could do 75-80 mph in ev only. Not for long tho of course.
Is there a way to factory reset everything in the car? If I get a 4th gen Prius I’d want to reset everything so my info is from when I got it. I’m not talking the odo of course but everything else.
Can anyone please help me find a trim level info page online? I want to know each 4th gen year what each trim has. So I know what is the cheapest trim for nav and prem sound and the other features. I have no idea. Kbb shows trims for each year separate. Like 2016. 2017. Etc. but it don’t list all features for each trim. I really need to know this if I’m going to pick the right one.

does anyone know if I got my cousins car if I can buy a warranty? I get financing of course. Then Ned warranty. I don’t want a car without a warranty. I want to be covered for issues. Peace of mind.

I liked the drive ok but I don’t know how to use it. Like the touchscreen. Cruise control. Adaptive cruise. Can’t see the buttons in the dark.

it was a nice ride. But no idea when it’s in ev or not. I don’t fully understand the screen that shows pwr and eco and has a blue bar? With grey bar?

it seems even if you just barely touch the gas it’s too much for ev. So this seems useless. My cmax did way better. I could press gas pedal more and still be in ev. But I know they’re different cars. I sold mine cus I wanted something else.

4th gen Prius seems like a cool car.

it can be slow around here on weekends, but it might make sense to break up your questions and start new threads in the most appropriate gen 4 forums you can find

This sucks. You go to a site. Ask questions. They tell you, look online for your answer. That ain’t right. That’s why you come to hopefully friendly places like this.

not everything I asked can be found in a manual. It’s like why bother. Sheesh.

Very few here watch the newbie forum. If you want a gen4 post a new thread (not an add on post) over there in the main forum.

These hybrids only do about 1 mile ev up to 42mpg if you are very easy on the pedal.

They will not compare to a Bolt or any ev.

The best you can do with a Prius is a plug in model, still a hybrid but maybe 25 miles ev if the hybrid battery is excellent. But not in your price range.

The best source is a Prius brochure for the year you want. Eg "2018 Prius brochure". I did this for you below.

For the price you need I would look for the best Chevy Volt I could find but at least their second generation.

I told him to look in the OM; in this post 4th gen questions | PriusChat He didn't state that he was looking to buy one - assumed he already owned it and was asking contradictory questions. So without a specific year make and model, some was equipped with what he was looking for, some didn't. Didn't want to lead him astray.....

Sorry guys. I get confused easy.
So I should be getting rid of my bolt tomorrow. Then hope to get a gen 4 Prius.
I don’t want ev cus I can’t charge at home. So I prefer Prius really.
Volt has bad leg room. Prius 2nd gen and 4th gen ok.

i think you are doing the right thing for your situation. just be cautious of the heat exchanger problem.

    I hope too.
    I’m scared nervous concerned cus I don’t think I can get anything I want for $350 a month. :(.

Gen 2 is old. Always 90k plus miles. No Bluetooth. Not as nice info screen as Gen 4. Have to immediately change cd player for new nice touchscreen.

Gen 4 too much. So I’m screwed. :(.

I’d never do a Lease cus you don’t own it. And they are always a bad deal I think.

I can’t walk. Bad feet. Everywhere is too far.

Ok. Is Second Gen bad no matter what? I know it’s old. But I have an option. 2009 Touring. Prem Sound. Nav. 101k mile. Under $8k. Get warranty. Take it to where to have it checked before buying it?

Can I connect my iPhone 15 pro max for audio? Apple Music. Use usb or bt?

id want to put in a kenwood touchscreen with CarPlay eventually. Or something else. Get rid of the cd player.

4th gen I prefer. But cost is out of reach for now. But have friend checking for me.

Prius v? 2015 looks like second gen. Where the shifter is and center console just a cup holder like second gen. This works. $13k maybe not sure.

I don’t know what else to do. I’m open to other options but I have to fit.

the 2nd gen is low cost and maybe I could save for a newer car at the same time. But that takes years. And I have a friend who can help with maintenance etc.

prius v has all the same problems as gen 3.

second gen are great, but only if you diy. most for sale will have hidden problems because they are in high demand.
a 2009 will need a $4,000. battery soon, probably burns oil which kills the $3,500. cat, and may need a brake actuator eventually.
the warranty won't cover any of these problems unfortunately

You’re giving opinions. Lots of people don’t change battery for life of car.

being I can’t gas up the 04 mdx I’m using I feel like I have to get something asap. And everyone here is telling me stuff that puts me off and don’t get a Prius. Sheesh. What a site.

I give up. I have no patience for this crap. I am totally screwed. Whatever. Life ain’t worth much these days.
