Very true. Nothing says "I've got a real outdated car" - then buying a car with some gigantic outstanding features to remind you when it became passe.

 

Speaking of grills, isn't this the UX EV they sell in Europe and China?

 

It got an update in 2023 that included a battery listed 0.1kW different than announced for this C-HR. The power and range of the UX is lower. I'm guessing it didn't get upgraded power electronic and motor.

Now see Europe is getting the C-HR EV. The UX will likely get the drive train upgrades with the redesign, which it is due for.

Remember the UX 300e has an air cooled battery and CHAdeMo fast charging

 

From their Press Kit "With no danger of the leaks sometimes associated with liquid cooling, the system works by circulating cooled air inside the sealed battery pack. The system has been optimised to enhance the UX 300e's performance, battery life and charging performance as well as the interior comfort." In reality they designed the battery as nothing more than a large typical hybrid battery.

I figured when Lexus increased the battery from 54.3 kWh to 72.8 kWh they'd go to liquid cooling. Nope, from this release:

" Cool air is circulated inside the battery pack to maintain stable output, even in extended periods of high-speed driving and during repeated charging. Heating elements beneath each module minimise the impact of colder external temperatures on the driving range and help ensure maximum power is available from start-up."

I love this line:
"For 2024, the time taken to charge the battery to 80% using a DC rapid charging system has been reduced, from 80 to 60 minutes."

and here I thought the bZ was slow.

See, ample room for the air cooling between modules.

 

Next time you're traveling through socal, Florida, Texas etc & it's over 100°f. Think about that cool air.
And when the traction pack starts heating up from charging, think cool thoughts during those summertime temps where the asphalt gets to over 150°

 

Oh dang, this is actually the kind of EV I would be happy to buy from Toyota. Glad its coming to Canada.

If it comes with a heat pump and a decent charge speed for if/when we ever would need to use the car as more than a local driver, this may actually be something we put in an order for.

Would want to wait and see what the full spec list and feature set is though, and the price of course. But I'd be happy to put my name in for one to be honest.
