Big bell is divesting themselves of copper lines.
Depending on where you are in your Commonwealth, Dial tone either IS or soon will be 'manufacturer discontinued.'
One of my many tinker projects at present is Winlink/Vara - but it's not going to be a replacement for the interwebs.
More like a means to send text/email over FM or HF in a plugs-out, network down region.

Starlink is the stuff you want in a post natural disaster event.
As an added benefit - it will probably drop in price over time as capacity is added to that network and if Bezos can stay out of divorce court long enough for his 'me too' satellite constellation to scale up.
The ChiComms also plan a mesh network of 14,000 satellites....

Dang good thing they call it......'SPACE.'

    Bundle up...

PS: anyone else thinking we've entered the twilight zone considering the "Pup" thread in the Gen 3 forum about "changing" oil several times and never draining the old oil...

That's a picture of an obstructed license plate.

If you are cold maybe roll up the window?

Just sayin' -- Mendal's cold tho it's 60F in British Columbia and I guess the oil change thread is just a language thing ... Unless Hobbit has returned. Or Carolyn from Luscious/Earthling is messing with us.

    Hot hot!

They never cease to tick me off. At least you can see this guy's signals.

Very prevalent around here, so guessing it's not getting enforced. Plus "clever clogs", smoked plexiglass license plate "covers" (obscurers).

There's another phenomena: old-school plates were painted, but now they're laminated, and start shedding after about a decade in the elements.

PSA (Public Service Announcement), in BC (British Columbia), ICBC (Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, a quasi-government body, the main insurer in the province), will supply you with a fresh and free set of plates if yours have deteriorated. 'Course they don't advertise this, as evidenced by the proliferation of near-total illegible plates on cars here..

We already have that, you can place a "landline" call over the HF radio if you are part of that sort of thing and have pre arranged it, but most just carry a satellite phone and suffer the financial penalty if they need to use it, generally rented in 3 mth blocks, but some choose to buy one outright ..... but you certainly would use it for getting on the interweb, you would just use a satellite data connection if you were that far out in the sticks, then you could talk anywhere in the world via Whatsapp

Venting...not a rant... Weeks ago...during an argument (ie row ) with the wife I made the mistake of telling her how much money we lost in our retirement fund. This lead to more shouting on her end. Mostly about the POTUS and upset and me because I WASN't Upset at how much we lost. I just checked today and we gained back ALL we lost plus gained that amount. (significant) I cant gloat...not my style anyway.
But something is working in the Economy of the USA. Numbers don't lie.....and I'm not going to mention it to her. She likes to fight and I say shit I don't mean...So I'm tight lipped and just quietly type here. Sometimes this boat is very small in these waves...

Those gurgling sounds the washer makes in the basement when I'm lying down upstairs and wonder if they're coming from me.
