My car has been hit with the heat exchanger/catalytic converter problem. My question is should this part be under the emission warranty given that this is part of the catalytic converter?
i suppose you could try more dealers. idk who interprets and enforces warranties in each state, attorney generals office?
It all depends on which state/local jurisdiction your car is currently registered in. States that ascribe to the tighter CARB EPA standards get 15 years and 150K miles warranty. States that don't; get the federal minimal of 8 years 80K miles; I believe. Don't believe what a service advisor tells you; their job is to "sell repairs"! You need to look-up the facts yourself and show them it's under warranty. Know your rights!... You didn't mention year, make, model, or miles on that car, and your profile suggest a 2010 Prius - yet your posting in the Prime forum? Please correct your profile or tell us your car stats mentioned above - so we can better assist you.... There was a similar issue about 6 months ago. OP was stuck in Las Vegas, but it was a California registered car. Nevada is under federal emissions coverage, but she was covered under CARB emissions standards. She had to call Toyota corporate to get reimbursed for the work performed in Las Vegas, because she was under CARB warranty. Hope this helps......
Ok spoke to the service manager and not the advisor, the job is under the emission warranty. This is for a 2018. Hope it helps everyone.
Make sure they back-off any associated diagnostics fees too; now that it's been determined warranty work. Gotta' keep those service advisors on their toes..... Good Luck...
