Hey all so I was just looking on eBay & found what looks to be a very reasonable priced egr cooler for $75 (+s&h). Would you guys think this is a good price? Apparently all the EGR valves with the cooler attached are just too expensive imo. I figured ill just get the cooler itself & then spend a whole weekend working on getting the valve & the cooler cleaned up.

Also just found this & would like input as well please: https://ebay.us/m/z02L4w

EGR valve is separate about 128 bux new. The cooler I'm not sure what new would cost usually tanked at machine shop makes it new again .

Well now offense, but just the valve itself won't help if the cooler doesn't come with it. My understanding is that part of the issue with the 3rd Gen is the cooler attached to the valve. That's why I'm trying to find either the cooler or both parts together. Btw I just edited the original to include a possible used pair at a very reasonable price.

What . Sir it all comes in pieces I've it sitting right here apart like a couple 10mm . Cooler gets tanked to clean like new EGR valve has a newer updated part . So it gets replaced for the cost I stated . This is all normal repair stuff for this model . No secrets . You can see you tube videos for weeks of watching for gen3 engine nonsense. I promise it's two pieces . You buy and EGR valve their won't be a cooler in sight of that box unless it's the one from you're engine.

Hey there I think there was some miscommunication along the way. I've already watched videos on how to remove it. I'm fully aware that they can come apart. What I'm trying to figure out is if I should just get it all used or just focus on the cooler itself since the cooler is more difficult to find in general. No one wants to make new EGR coolers.

EBay and salvage yard buys may be a valve/cooler combo.

It's just a radiator for EGR gasses just gets tanked all the crap come out and flow HG is restored . The valve on other hand is a bit more complicated. They go in trash at salvage yard generally.

Forgive the silly question but why not just clean the cooler and valve that are already in your car?
Especially since you have to take them out in the first place????

I've seen several videos where people have used oven cleaner to clean out the deposits and I have read posts from drive-by engineers and technicians that warn this will destroy the whole car.

    Me?
I'd give it a go - especially since you're thinking of just replacing the parts anyway....... ;)

Hey Mendel, so unfortunately around here salvage yards don't really get a good selection of Prius cars in general. Also people know about the egr valves for the 3rd gen & thus they go immediately after them. I've honestly given up on my local salvage yards (we have 3 and I have to drive 2 hours round trip for each of them), so I'd much rather just go the eBay route.

Hey man, so actually that's a very fair question. So where I live, we have our own local version of Doordash that I use to make extra $ on the side and naturally the weekend is the best time to grind for that money. The reason behind this post is in general to save myself as much down time as possible. Also maybe someone in the future here will want mine when I'm done cleaning it up or maybe I'll just sell it on eBay (not sure which direction ill go there). Overall its just another part of the car that I want to take care of. As per your comment about the cleaning, that's something I can easily do on the side when I'm not busy with my local Doordash job.

You can buy new egr coolers for less than $160 on ebay and even less on some of the Asian sites.
    NEW OEM GENUINE TOYOTA 10-15 PRIUS | 10-17 CT200h EGR W/COOLER PIPE 25601-37010 | eBay

Starcaller's 85k mile cooler looks pretty clean. Most used are more clogged and come from high mile junked cars.

You don't want to buy the $94 aftermarket egr valve. If you have a 2010-12 Prius, the new revised egr valve may be worth another $150 as the early versions were prone to sticking. Otherwise just clean the 2013-15 valve.

Hey all so I actually found one on eBay for a shockingly low $50. There's no photos to show that they actually cleaned it in advance so I don't have an issue with cleaning it myself. However, I would like to know all the methods in terms of trying to clean an egr cooler. There's one video on using brake cleaner. @Mendel Leisk Talked about using oven cleaner with oxi boost or oxi cleaner in another post. Just curious on what all types of cleaners I should use. I remember seeing one video where a guy bought something that started with the letter B, but I can't remember but apparently all he did was just let it soak in this solution and all the black junk just started flowing out. When I find that video, I'll make sure to share it.

An egr cooler out of a high mile oil burner (common) will be completely clogged from one end to another with a tar that can be as solid as epoxy. In those cases chemical and power washer methods are only a final step after the multiple small passages are mechanically cleared first. Which can be tough with a rotating wire on the end of a drill.

If the used cooler looks like this (Starcaller's) you have a chance of chemical cleaning.

    Or you may get this

The odds are your original cooler is not throwing a code and looks more like the first.

Personally I used a new cooler the first time and spent days cleaning the original clogged cooler that did throw a code. The second time at 300k miles I used the cleaned cooler.
