I have been looking into the Toyota digital rear view mirrors for a while pretty intensely when I got my car and than again recently. Finally made sense of some of the models listed as compatible with the 5th gen prius. Pretty sure that model 87840-0W360 is the model number for the digital rear view mirror without homelink buttons on it. Here are some picks I found on a Taiwanese web site. I found a pretty decent price from a Thai web site Yoshi Parts $630 with shipping for 87840-0W360. Never ordered from them before but they look like they have some happy customers according to google. The $630 does not include the rear mirror assembly and camera. Parts still needed to do the install would be the rear camera assembly 86790-47190 which includes another backup camera and the housing with the mounting points for both cameras. Than I would still need the digital rear view mirror camera 867C0-30040. That would get me most of the essential pieces without the necessary wires or harness. In summary to me this looks like the best way to add a Toyota OEM digital mirror since it is quite a bit cheaper than previous posts I have seen with parts and prices. I am not in a rush to take this project on but think I will eventually. Currently have a bullet network camera mounted on my roof rack that I think will work well in the meantime to stream a view out the back to an old iPhone once I finish wiring it up. Anyone have any experience with purchasing from Yoshi Parts or any feedback on part numbers and my understanding of the components involved?
Another FYI, DRM's with outside camera mounts NEED a washer. If going aftermarket, placing the camera inside and within the rear wipers wipe zone is an ok workaround. Opps, 4/5 gen Prius don't have a wiper either.
I don't think this is correct anymore. I think the two main pieces (camera assembly and mirror) when upgrading are the rear camera assembly 867A0-47020 which includes both the reverse camera and the digital mirror camera. I ordered one and will be able to confirm shortly if this is correct once I receive my shipment. Here is the parts diagram from amayama.com. Here is the pricing from impex for 4 rear camera assemblies. Still can not understand exactly is different between the two cheaper rear camera assemblies. My best guess is that it is a higher resolution camera for use with panoramic view monitor.
No. The difference is the more expensive one comes with the washer parts and the spot for the second camera. 86790-47150 - Just the backup camera and mounting plate w/o washer 86790-47180 - Just the backup camera and mounting plate w/ washer 867C0-30040- Just the camera for the rear view mirror 867A0-47020 - 86790-47180 + 867C0-30040 There's also 86790-47190 which appears to be the backup camera and mounting plate w/o washer but can still accept the rear view mirror camera. I guess that if you want to add a factory digital rear view mirror, but don't want to try and add the panoramic view monitor, that's probably the one you would want.
Take two, for additional clarity and prices: Prices: US MSRP - 31%+20% discount - Impex 86790-47150 - base version - backup camera only ($151.88 - $84.01 - $107.38) 86790-47190 - backup camera, spot for rear view mirror camera ($237.36 - $131.29 - N/A) 86790-47180 - backup camera, spot for rear view mirror camera, washer assembly ($149.84 - $82.87 - $151.71) 867C0-30040- rear view mirror camera ($342.06 - $189.19 - $240.39) 867A0-47020 - 86790-47180 + 867C0-30040 ($347.95 - $192.46 - $352.62) Looks like this is one of the cases where it's cheaper to buy from Toyota USA(during a sale) than import from Japan.
Not sure I'm buying @Hammersmith 's taxonomy. From what I've seen previously, there is a low-res crummy version of the reversing camera, so it looks to me like: 47150: crummy low-res one (SD video?) 47180: decent one (digital, wide-angle) 47190: decent one with fitting point for digital rear view mirror Edit - trying again after staring and comparing catalogues more. 47150 - crummy low-res (SD video?) reversing camera, no digital mirror fitting 47190 - crummy low-res reversing camera, digital mirror fitting 47180 - decent (digital, wide-angle) reversing camera, digital mirror fitting 47190 might not be a real production part. 47180 is the only part in Europe, where you always get the good reversing camera. What's the deal with the rear view mirror in the USA? Am I right in thinking that the base models have the low-res reversing camera, and the decent one comes with the panoramic view package in the Limited? But the rear view mirror isn't dependent on the panoramic view? Do you get the decent reversing camera with the rear-view mirror? If so, maybe that's an inventory simplification - they decided to forget about the 47190 bad-reversing + digital mirror option.
I paid $269.24 with tax and shipping to california from Midlands Toyota. Where did you find 867A0-47020 for $192.46? Used? Some sites I have noticed sell just the camera from salvaged Prii like this one here which in the photos shows the Toyota model number for the camera assembly on the camera itself which if I understand the numbers correctly is not accurate since it should include the plastic mounting piece as well. Continuing to look into the digital rear view mirror models available I found one from Toyota with a built in DVR 87840-0W210 ($706.62 impex). Mirror from a Toyota Harrier. Has a micro sd card slot on the bottom side of the mirror. Wiring harness looks a little different. I have come to the conclusion that the two 4 pin connectors on each side are for connecting the front and rear cameras for DVR. Still working on figuring out the other 8 pins. I know 2 are for power one connected to accessory/on 12V power and the other a 12V always on power source, a third for ground. The other 5 pins still a bit of puzzle.
Another possibility is that models with rear parking assist with automatic braking use data from a higher resolution camera to detect objects behind the car. A couple of pieces of evidence to support this theory. I attached a hitch mounted bike rack. Somehow the rack would trigger the automatic braking when reversing. Make sense that the camera view of the rack triggered the brake. Another piece of evidence to support this theory is the trims and the inclusion of this feature certain trims. For the 6 trims for the Prius (LE, SE, XLE, XSE, Limited, XSE+) only the upper four trims have this feature included and it is an option for LE and SE trims. Here is a pic.
Camera Assembly, Television & Inner Mirror Lewis's price is currently $240.57 (free shipping and probably no tax if purchased outside of Kansas). In a couple weeks, it's almost certain autoparts.toyota.com will have a summer/4th of July sale. It might be a 15% off sale, but I'm betting it will be 20% off. That brings the price down to $192.46. As for why the camera has the part number printed on that should be for the combined assembly, that I can't tell you. All I can go by are the part diagrams, which say 30040 is for just the camera and 47020 is for the camera plus the assembly.
Yes, makes sense. Parts descriptions mention it too. Camera presumably required for either PKSB or panoramic view. Wide angle important for both as well as resolution.
