Trying to be more precise, I used YouTube (first mistake) to understand:
    • Sociopath - see the commander in Chief
    • Psychopath - see the Tesla CEO
But then I ran into a foreign term, "Sigma Male."

One should always be wary when learning something new that you don't identify with the subject. For example, "hypochondriac" and one's ordinary aches and pains of life. But suddenly there is a label that may or may not apply, "Sigma Male" (are there "Sigma Females??") So I found this: Sigma Male Test - wikiHow

    upload_2025-6-26_3-16-8.png

As for "are there any Sigma Females", I think very few as communication seems pretty common in the female of our species. When my late wife became home bound, I hired a house keeper and told her, "Your primary job is to visit with Holly. Clean up the messy house as easy but gals need other gals." The house keeper brought over her grandkids which was a real treat for my late wife.

I always figured that P47 was more of a classic narcissist than somebody suffering from APSD.
    He's a red-light whore.
LOVES to see those little red lights go on when the cameras are aimed at 'himself.'

    @Mendel Leisk 'splainer:
I used the term 'sociopath' in polite company and some drive-by PHD lectured me about the fact that 'sociopath' is not a clinical diagnosis used by mental health professionals, but rather "APSD" or antisocial personality disorder is now the peer-reviewed (crowd sourced) term.

BTW....I've been posting in PC for 15 years and to the best of my knowledge I've never taken one of the on-line "Are you a _____" tests.

    HOWEVER (comma!)
I semi-trust wiki-How and even though the questions had little to do with a old telephone mechanic I scored....

WHICH means many many different things depending on who you ask.... ;)

Do we distance ourselves from meanings, with acronyms. Example, and I have no clue what it stands for, sure I could look it up, but:

Regarding being "off", the Brits employ a very simple word, for a wide range: "mad".

It can range from "she was quite mad" to "tighten it firmly, but don't go mad". Example of the latter:

Sorry, but I thought that after 'PhD-gate' here in the US back in 2020 it was obvious.
I not only forgot that PC is a multi-national forum but I misused the PHD.
I forgot in that in OUR post-nominals it's supposed to be big 'P' little 'h' and Big 'D.'
    (Absolutely NO double entendre intended!!!)

    In America:
A PhD, or Doctor of Philosophy, post-nominal is "PhD" (or sometimes "DPhil" depending on the awarding institution). It is placed after a person's name to indicate they have earned a doctoral degree. For example, someone with a PhD in physics might be styled as "John Smith, PhD (Physics)" or "John Smith, PhD".

If that is what they prefer.

I imagine those into these pseudo wolf social hierarchies don't mind.

I suspect "early adopters" is another synonym for "sigma male." Perhaps that is why the forum continues even for those who moved on from Toyota style hybrids ... those with a variable gear ratio transmission.

The term seems to be something invented and mostly used in the online 'manosphere', a crowd that doesn't interest me much. It seems like a term intended to be more flattering than derogatory, and sometimes a group that has invented a new term and wants to make it happen might create an online 'quiz' that will congratulate you for being 'it' for a wide range of the possible answers you could give.

I remember a couple decades ago there was this "shortest political quiz" that somebody steered me to. It had, if I recall, four questions, each answerable two ways. So there were 2⁴ = 16 different ways total you could complete the quiz.

I didn't need a lot of time to 'take' the quiz sixteen times, once for every combination of answers possible. And while it was supposed to place you into one of four categories, fully nine of the sixteen ways you could fill it out all led to "hey, did you realize you're a libertarian?".

The 'quiz' was hosted on the libertarian party website. I think it was a little more recruitment gimmick than psychometric instrument.

That is the type of insight I was hoping to get. A new term to me, some of the YouTubes were a little "too slick." Guess I'll have to go back to being the same, old, boring Bob. <GRINS>

Proof that you are a "sigma male": you reject the term "sigma male."

i was also steered to a quiz which i thought would be interesting. unfortunately, after 15 minutes of answering questions, the last question was 'what is your email address'

At least that proves it doesn't say "You're a stone-cold Sigma Male" to all the ... persons.

Male is the only gender/sex the test maker cares about.
