Toyota Digital Rear View Mirror 87840-0W360 (no homelink)

I have been looking into the Toyota digital rear view mirrors for a while pretty intensely when I got my car and than again recently. Finally made sense of some of the models listed as compatible with the 5th gen prius. Pretty sure that model 87840-0W360 is the model number for the digital rear view mirror without homelink buttons on it.

I found a pretty decent price from a Thai web site Yoshi Parts $630 with shipping for 87840-0W360. Never ordered from them before but they look like they have some happy customers according to google.

The $630 does not include the rear mirror assembly and camera. Parts still needed to do the install would be the rear camera assembly 86790-47190 which includes another backup camera and the housing with the mounting points for both cameras. Than I would still need the digital rear view mirror camera 867C0-30040.

That would get me most of the essential pieces without the necessary wires or harness.

In summary to me this looks like the best way to add a Toyota OEM digital mirror since it is quite a bit cheaper than previous posts I have seen with parts and prices. I am not in a rush to take this project on but think I will eventually. Currently have a bullet network camera mounted on my roof rack that I think will work well in the meantime to stream a view out the back to an old iPhone once I finish wiring it up.

Anyone have any experience with purchasing from Yoshi Parts or any feedback on part numbers and my understanding of the components involved?

 

I don't think this is correct anymore.

I think the two main pieces (camera assembly and mirror) when upgrading are the rear camera assembly 867A0-47020 which includes both the reverse camera and the digital mirror camera. I ordered one and will be able to confirm shortly if this is correct once I receive my shipment.

Still can not understand exactly is different between the two cheaper rear camera assemblies. My best guess is that it is a higher resolution camera for use with panoramic view monitor.

 

I paid $269.24 with tax and shipping to california from Midlands Toyota.

Where did you find 867A0-47020 for $192.46? Used?

Some sites I have noticed sell just the camera from salvaged Prii like this one here which in the photos shows the Toyota model number for the camera assembly on the camera itself which if I understand the numbers correctly is not accurate since it should include the plastic mounting piece as well.



Continuing to look into the digital rear view mirror models available I found one from Toyota with a built in DVR 87840-0W210 ($706.62 impex). Mirror from a Toyota Harrier.

Has a micro sd card slot on the bottom side of the mirror.



Wiring harness looks a little different.




I have come to the conclusion that the two 4 pin connectors on each side are for connecting the front and rear cameras for DVR. Still working on figuring out the other 8 pins. I know 2 are for power one connected to accessory/on 12V power and the other a 12V always on power source, a third for ground. The other 5 pins still a bit of puzzle.

 

Another possibility is that models with rear parking assist with automatic braking use data from a higher resolution camera to detect objects behind the car. A couple of pieces of evidence to support this theory. I attached a hitch mounted bike rack. Somehow the rack would trigger the automatic braking when reversing. Make sense that the camera view of the rack triggered the brake. Another piece of evidence to support this theory is the trims and the inclusion of this feature certain trims. For the 6 trims for the Prius (LE, SE, XLE, XSE, Limited, XSE+) only the upper four trims have this feature included and it is an option for LE and SE trims.

According to the parts department at Pat Lobb Toyota of McKinney my Prius Prime XSE premium with no panoramic view monitor or digital rear view mirror or rear camera washer the replacement part is 47150.

I have placed several orders for 867A0-47020 but still do not have one yet. The second to last order I placed says it is backordered. Switched to 86790-47190 and paid $133.39 with no tax or shipping with 4th of July sale at Lewis Toyota. Thanks Hammersmith! Within a couple of days I should find out if they have it in stock.

I have come to realize Hammersmith had it right in his original post. 47150 is standard reversing camera only with no washer while 47180 is back up camera with washer.

Pretty sure I was wrong about any of the cameras on the rear of the vehicle providing input to rear parking assist with automatic braking since from looking at the wiring diagrams for the advanced park system there is no input from any digital camera rather just ultrasonic sensors.

Sounds like the digital rear view mirror I mentioned above also used on the Japanese Harrier SUV. From what I can tell it has DVR in the digital rear view mirror that takes a micro SD card. No Homelink which makes it quite a bit cheaper.

My takeaway so far. There is no difference in camera resolution as far as I can tell. The two different cameras panoramic/reversing and digital rearview mirror differ mainly in the lens with the panoramic/reversing camera more of a wide angle lens and the digital rear view mirror camera more of a standard lens.

 

Update-

86790-47190 arrived today. Not what I expected. Good news is that it does have the attachments for the digital rear view camera. Bad news it does not include the digital rear view mirror camera. Here is a photo.

Looks like 47190 on first inspection has the holes for the rear camera cleaners too.

 

I realized it is kind of a crapshoot with no clear definitive source on what part number included what camera and washer mounts. What I have is clearly not exactly what I wanted but it is workable. Will need to think of some way to plug the washer holes or the part numbers for the washing spouts.

After searching online just purchased from Lewis Toyota. No sale this time. Probably be at least a couple months before I install it since I still haven't decided on which mirror to get or how I am going to route the wires.

This is not 100% correct. 86790-47190 is what I purchased from lewis toyota and received. It includes the ports for the two camera washers.

This make sense to me.

That looks correct to me to. Probably would have been better off sticking with this order.
