Hi guys, I recently found a lot of rust around my 12v battery while replacing it. Today I was replacing the rear lights and figured I'd look for the leak. I noticed water dropping from the fan above the 12v battery which cools the high voltage battery. Checking this, there's not really any way water could get better directly so I checked above and saw a bit of water near the bolt... I think it's trickling down the bracket and in to the fan. Looking at the body panels though I can't see how water could be getting here. Does anyone have an idea or has anyone seen this before? Photo attached. Cheers Dan
It's usually a window or boot seal. The boot seal is also a water guide, directing water flow down and around the hatch to drain out at the bottom of the hatch. If that hatch seal area (including gutter) isn't clean, it would disrupt the water flow - allowing it to spill into and behind your rear moldings. You can test this by placing a hose on the roof of your car and allow a slow flow of water and see where it goes. Good Luck tracking it down....
Also, I'm not sure where your windshield wash lines are located, but also look at them....maybe use them and look for anything leaking.
There is a thread in this forum which describes where most of the leaks are from. Long story short, look at the roof near the hinge for the hatch, especially under the rubber strip that runs front to back along the roof. The hatch going up and down applies forces to the sheet metal near by and sometimes that results in leaks at the seams.
