I did some searching before i posted but not seeing any specific answers to my question. one post about the headlights was a very long one about diagnosing the hybrid system. my 09 prius with 287K daily driver, original traction battery. my key fob no longer works wirelessly so i just plug it into the dash. (probabally been that way for 5 years) a week or 2 ago i noticed that it was no longer beeping at me to remove the fob when i turn off the power. i noticed tonight that it also doesn't automatically shut off the headlights like it has for years. the fob receptacle lights still come on, but they also aren't on at times too, but i never really paid close attention to them. also, the immobilizer light on the dash is off when the fob is inserted in the receptacle, that appears normal. car turns on and off fine, otherwise. any thoughts?
There's about a 80 pages of troubleshooting in manual a guy posted online copy yesterday in similar thread.
Does the dome light work when you open the driver's door? (and do you get the red "door open" icon on the dash?) Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
no, the dome light doesn't work when i open the door. another thing I noticed, there's a stop light i have to sit at in the morning on the way to work, and while I'm waiting, I swish some mouthwash, open the door and spit it out. normally when i do that, it puts out a solid tone, the red triangle comes on and it says shift into park on the MFD. it does none of that now. I even tried the passenger door and it doesn't do anything either. I can manually turn on the dome light with the switch, but it doesn't work automatically. several years ago i replaced the dome light with an LED and lately, the dome light has a very very dim illumination, and it flickers randomly. that's a symptom i bet no one can attest to because most people don't have an LED bulb and a regular bulb would require more current than that to light up, ive also noticed a Radio issue, when i first turn on the car, there will be loud static thunder crashing for maybe 30 seconds and then the static will dies down and the music will play. there are times theres no static crashing and the radio/cd player doesnt play.i even replaced the stereo and the replacement did the same thing. thats been happening longer than this issue.
Weird symptoms...how old is your 12volt battery? 3-5 years? If parked in Florida heat.....could die as early as 2 years. When I lived in Florida I had trouble like that. Reading the codes with a quality OBD should reveal more info. But on the parts cannon list (when I had....very weird things happen..randomly a new 12Volt battery fixed it. also sounds like it could be chewed wires. Do you park in a garage? Maybe Mice?
