Hi I'm planning to buy a used junkyard oem gen3 prius cat for my prius. I was wondering how can I tell if its oem or aftermarket? is this the correct o2 parts I see the review some people say it dont work for gen3 prius? downsteam o2 - DENSO 2344400 upstream o2 - DENSO 234-9301 is there any aftermarket gasket and bolts for the cat or I have to get oem?
The oem cat includes the exhaust heat recirculation system and bolts in. If it is aftermarket it will be just the front two cats crudely welded into the factory exhaust recirculation system. Most likely you can reuse your bolts and gaskets or the junkyard parts. A junkyard assembly will have the sensors as well. The only caution on any of this is if the engine(s) were oil burners the cats may be fouled.
Look at you're old cat on way out of car see at the front wer exhaust first hits honeycomb. Look for clogging plugging. Hold up to sun look into cat carefully . Bingo. If you're at an exhaust shop tell him to tell ya what he sees on you're old .
why is my friend aftermarket cat different than the one you show me. He say his aftermarket cat throw cel. Do all aftermarket cat throw cel? Or the o2 is bad/ wrong? The heat exchanger looks weird on his tho
The Walkers are good. I have used them on gen2s without throwing a code. Notice it is not the cheapest out there. In California they may not be allowed since they are not oem.
What does your friends have to do with it? It looks rusted. You need better pics that show the cat to heat exchanger connection.
he was going to let me borrow it to put it on so I can still drive the Prius. But he say it gives a cel
Who cares if it throws a cell you'll be able to drive your car until you sort all Out . Unless you have a state inspection next week
Normally people in states that allow aftermarket cats can get results with the Walker welded on to the heat exchanger. While still a bad picture (Android with no light?) this weld looks like it is not factory and somebody bought a cheaper aftermarket cat and welded it to the heat exchanger. Around here I could get a muffler shop to remove the two cats on the car and reinstall and weld the Walker cat to heat exchanger connection for $75. I certainly would not install one that you know throws codes. Getting the whole assembly from a junkyard is a risk but would remain 100% oem.
my friend say mybe its the o2 sensor that cause the cel, he never scanned the cel code and he say he its a cheap o2 sensor and I think prius is picky on o2 sensor too isnt it? the junkyard say it got a 6 month warranty in it and comes with sensor
