Hello, I’m purchasing a ‘08 Prius 2!that had its cat stolen and am wondering which aftermarket replacement is best bet for performance, longevity and lest likely to through codes? Thanks!

I don't think it's possible to buy a car in that condition with a normal title in California since it cannot pass smog, and if it can't pass smog, no sale. I guess if it came with a salvage title that transaction would be legal. Anyway, California has a (very short) list of approved converters and only those can be used to make the repair. I believe some states may have the same rules. For sure some states don't check any of this and you could just put a straight pipe in all the way to the muffler and the state wouldn't care. That would still be a federal violation, but if the state isn't looking, nobody is looking.

Hopefully MN has DIY friendly rules..as long as the aftermarket is fed approved.

it happens all the time in facebook market place, nobody can prevent you from selling a car with no cats. It's the buyer's responsibility to have it checked, repaired and registered. The important thing is the title. If you live in CARB states then no aftermarket can replace it, MN is not one of them so lucky you.. buy the cheapest cats in rockauto (Walker) and if they fail (p0420) buy a spacer for $8 online (Walmart) No need to spend thousands on the cats.
