I got my rear axle replaced on my 2004 prius. It runs and drives smoothly, the only downside I noticed (now more frequently) is some kind of clunking noise which stays intermittently while taking left turns from right and while going on certain bumps. I am not sure what is wrong because the mechanic said its all good when handing over the car. Maybe he missed the rear sway bar? Could it be the rear sway bar? Because for sure he checked all the suspension related stuff and certified good to drive. I don't see much information on the internet regarding this noise. Could someone help me out please. Thank you!
I had a similar sounding problem with a Subaru once... The brake drum would occasionally hit the back plate that the pads are mounted to and it was just in need of a new washer/spacer if I remember correctly. If it hasn't been too long since the work was done, take it back and ask them to check it. The mechanic probably didn't test drive it long enough to hear the noise.
Take it to another shop for an inspection. don't know how far this guy is from you. TCCN Automotive Good Luck....
Thanks for the inputs. Update - The sound is only so noticeable at under 30~35mph ish speeds. Not at all at higher speeds even going through bumps. Idk how to describe it, something similar to a clunk and a creak.
