Ug! I barely hit the car in front of me and bent my front hood right at the sensor area. No damage to the other vehicle because it was their trailer hitch. Now my cruise control and some other warnings aren’t working. I don’t care about what it looks like as far as touch up paint etc. Is this a dealership-only repair to the sensors?? A body shop quoted $3k for the physical repair but I don’t think they know how to fix the sensors. Plus, it’s an old scratched up car but I want cruise control, etc
Yeah looks like the radar sensor behind the emblem is out of alignment. The body shop will need to straighten that part and then the dealer will calibrate it. You can open the hood and see the radar sensor. It's a black rounded square unit.
The body shop may have the capability to calibrate the sensors. I had a minor scrape repaired at a local shop (one the dealership recommended) and they had the capability to calibrate my sensors. I can believe that estimate looking at the damage. That section is going to need to be replaced.
Thanks! Actually, you gave me the idea to just call our usual mechanic because they have the ability to re-calibrate but they will see if they can do it without fixing the body damage. The car has a lot of scratches and all the film is pealing off the black panels so we really don't want to invest a couple thousand in body repair to make it look nice--we just want sensors back and we will drive it until it's so old it just dies, like we usually do with our cars.
