    Hayne's has there people, or someone, tear a car down and go through all repairs.
    Or at least most of them, and made there own manual. And came up with there own manuals.

    Anyone who buys any piece of equipment has the right to repair it if they choose.
    You bought it, you own it.

    But the manufacture is under no obligation to provide anyone with the information to do the repair.
    They don't even have to provide the parts.

    I certainly wish they would provide that information more easily.

    It's a business, they want ALL the business. Nothing wrong with that.

    Luckily, there is youtube! You can find just about any repair for almost anything!

    I seem to remember that the drive electric motor spins at 10,000 RPM plus while driving at normal speeds. That tells me that there is some considerable gearing ratio between the wheels and the drive motor. Together with the fact that these motors use rare earth magnets, it seems highly implausible that neutral consists of just idling the gears. If the computer were not constantly monitoring torque to the wheels, it would not function as a neutral gear.

    This is just common sense.

    Because #42 is about Paul's understanding of neutral and not about Car Scanner Pro, I've responded to it in an appropriate existing thread.

    That response is probably boring to anybody coming to this thread to discuss Car Scanner (except maybe for someone with a geeky interest in how those MG RPMs behave that you can see in the app).

    This reasoning you bring is just based on current outdated business friendly concepts.

    Please read up on the EU right to repair legislation. Changes that you wish for will not happen unless regulated and forced. Home - Right to Repair Europe

    Reiterating #20, in the US, car manufacturers have put themselves under that obligation, by agreeing as a group to the terms of the Massachusetts right-to-repair law and agreeing to honor those terms throughout the US (for the not-completely-heartwarming reason that by agreeing to those terms they hoped to preempt better right-to-repair laws being proposed in other states).

    The techinfo.toyota.com site for the US is how Toyota goes about meeting that obligation.

    Whether there are any newer (Tesla, maybe?) or otherwise recalcitrant car manufacturers that stood apart from agreeing to those terms, I don't know.

    So, this is the best scenario according to you for spreading knowledge on how to keeping good cars running?

    Many people would possibly disagree.

    Why not just make the ideal repair information from Toyota available for everyone for free?

    What was the main argument against this..? Support dealerships only and make any independent mechanic or end-user fumble in the dark and use YouTube (which we all love, but they solve an issue that should perhaps not be allowed to exist at all, in my view).

    But what they WANT should perhaps not be what they are ALLOWED to do? If this is your ideal, why have any consumer facing laws at alll? Everything is wrong with that.

    $30 for two days access is not bad when you consider an one hour diagnostic at a dealer or pro independent is $150-$200. You can download hundreds or even thousands of pdfs but you are not getting the big books in one chunk that used to be available.

    The difference is one hour of pro time might take days diy starting from scratch. It can take a big part of those two days for $30 just to learn the navigation of the Toyota Information System.

    Meanwhile the Pro has done it so often there is no TIS learning curve much less an experience, tool, or resource limitation. Dealers also have factory tech support if needed..

    Do YOU work for free???? They have spend thousands, maybe millions of dollars to make something,
    or learn about how to make something and to fix it. WHY should they have to give there knowledge away
    for free????

    Just send me money. Now..... give it to me for free.

    I didn't say anything about whether it's good or bad according to me. I just tried to clarify what the terms are that the manufacturers have agreed to in the US.

    I'm not sure if you've been following news out of the US these past several years. You seem to be suggesting that regulations on corporate behavior to protect the public interest can be desirable at times. Proponents of that view can be found in the US, but at present have only opposition status in all three branches of the federal government and in many of the states. It does not seem like a propitious time for making much progress of the type you are proposing.

    If you check the www.toyota-tech.eu site, you should find that the terms available to you already beat the terms available to us in the US.
